If Disney fully connects this to the ST this franchise is actually going to die. Not talking Mando, but Star Wars itself. I won’t watch a second longer the moment I see it. The only mainstream appeal Star Wars has right now is Mando. That appeal will die once the ST enters the picture. There is no saving the ST. No redemption is possible. The total ineptitude of that dog **** trilogy should have led to criminal charges.

If Disney actually wants money they need to retcon the ST and launch a new trilogy from Mando/Ahsoka shows.

As much as I think Lucasfilm learns, they take two steps backward. BOBF proved as much. If these rumours are true, I can’t say I disagree with others sentiments about this being the final nail in the coffin for Star Wars for me. For the wider population, Star Wars will never die. Disney will pull every cent they can out of its rotting corpse if they can, but they fail to see that in going for a cheap buck, the quicker more seductive path, they are actively killing this brand by tying it to a property that DECREASED in popularity and box office every movie. That is proof of a dying franchise. Of fans who are uninterested in that story and the characters as well as what it means for the world at large. This is a studio in Lucasfilm who will not admit fault. Just like Rian Johnson’s rhetoric that TLJ is perfect, LF continue to put the blame on the fanbase. The viewers. Because of course Star Wars fans will never be pleased, and everyone just went into that movie with expectations that weren’t going to be met, as if the bare minimum of Luke being in character was such a tall bar for Johnson. I think the response to the failure pushing blame on the detractors left a bad taste in many fans’ mouths.

But fine okay, you gave us The Mandalorian. It isn’t perfect but it has enough care to at least not destroy the entire timeline or be an awful joke or assassinate fan loved characters. The bar was not high, and for two seasons, they surpassed that easily, even gave us some feelings of passion and excitement back for this brand. It felt like there was a beautiful arc that had come to completion with Grogu going with Luke to be his first student, marking an opportunity to give us Luke…the teacher. Not the grump Jake we got in TLJ, but a Jedi at the height of his powers. Were all the pieces to get there perfect? Absolutely not. But we got there, and Din is a kinda cool character and there’s an interesting conflict between he and Bo Katan along with his own tribe. Mandalorian politics was always so interesting and intricate in The Clone Wars show and having Filoni involved meant that would likely be portrayed really well. Ahsoka mentioned Thrawn, could we actually get something comparable to the incredible Zahn trilogy. That was where my head was after S2 of Mando, December 2020. It felt like they’d actually managed to right the ship just a bit, and set up some interesting elements for the future. For an entire year I actually kind of felt excited for Star Wars again. All they had to do to get me back in was follow those three rules. No character assassination. Don’t destroy the timeline. Don’t be an awful joke.

And then BOBF happened. All this goodwill for the treatment of Boba in Season 2 of Mando went backwards in character arc and in power level. Luke’s final scene shows a complete ineptitude of understanding his arc in ROTJ. Character assassination of beloved icons. I guess we can mostly give BOBF a pass on the second bar of not destroying the timeline (although it KILLED all my hopes for the future of the “Mando-verse”) but the third…basically dont be an awful joke…i think the many many wonderful pages of the BOBF discussion on this board serve as the biggest fail grade possible on this bar. Okay but surely Debroah Chow, who directed two of the best episodes of S1 of Mandalorian won’t let us down with an easy home run.

And then Kenobi happened. Character assassinations happening basically every 10 minutes. Timeline fractures that require you to literally ignore the show’s existence for the original Star Wars movie to work. Oh and by the way, has almost as many jokes to be made about how awful it is as BOBF. But this wasn’t just Boba Fett getting destroyed, or a small Luke scene that some may not entirely notice is laughably out of character. This was much more than that. I speak as a lover of the prequel era, who grew up on those movies, and never knew a Star Wars without them included. I was thoroughly disappointed with the ineptitude of the writing team in handling an easy slam dunk. Just tell an Obi Wan story, about him dealing with all the trauma. About the fact that he lost everyone. All the other Jedi except Yoda. Gone. His friends? Gone. His master? Gone. His brother? Gone. Gone so bad that he was burnt to a crisp. Obi Wan got to be a part of every death of a key person in his life. Qui Gon. Satine. Padme. Anakin. He’s the one with them at the end, and the only one that remains in his mind. And a reminder of that in Luke is what he gets to watch over. I think that really human drama could have pushed it into something really special, being some of the best Star Wars in decades. But instead…Reva happened. Okay that was a tangent…but an important one because I think you can see where I’m going with this.

Yes. Andor got a predominantly extremely positive reaction. But the bridge was burned with these two shows. Now Mando should be the opportunity to reforge that bridge again. But instead, Lucasfilm and Faverau and Filoni have decided that THIS is the time to show that the entire time, this was building to showing how Palpatine’s cloning happened. I get it, there were points of reference in the series for this being the case but…I was willing to ignore them because of that hopeful feeling. The fact that this show had to be built within the ST canon has completely kneecapped it and I wish…I so wish they just ignored it. The Sequels were like 2-3 years of time and didn't really feel ‘Galactic level’ in the way that the Prequels and Original Trilogy did. They could have just not acknowledged it. But no…Grogu has to go back to Mando because Luke’s first student was Kylo! The moment where that clicked for me made this new development entirely fathomable. And i feel like we’re in for another series like the two above that fails on a simplistic level because tying in the ST cannot work. The writers of the ST didn’t want to tie it to the end of ROTJ, they wanted to get to Empire vs Rebels again without any care as to why you can’t just immediately do that. The ST doesn’t even tie into itself, Johnson and Abrams were in a rap battle and we got three stories that are only connected because they have the same characters in them. Everything about each is so vastly different than the last. This right here is the problem with pretending a Clone Wars like answer exists for this trilogy. And in using The Mandalorian, a show that used to give us hope for the future of Star Wars, as a vehicle for that patchwork, they are sinking not just that show, but also the whole of this brand again. This is a studio that does not learn from their mistakes. If that rumour is true, I can’t say I’m shocked, but what a colossal disappointment the payoff for all that hope is.

Oh hey…just like The Last Jedi.

It’s like poetry folks, it rhymes.

I really like BoBF, Mandalorian and Andor but like you all cannot stand the sequel trilogy...I barely hear anything about it from anybody other than to slate it. Revisiting the ST would be a definite step back.

Garlador: However, I personally think the PT saga conceptually was amazing but poorly executed.

The ST COULD, I said COULD have been amazing if properly executed. It could have been even bearable if even sorta executed properly.

Imagine if we spent all that time we spent talking about the Knights of Ren and Kylo's early life instead of Holdo's bull****, Rose, Finn screaming REEEYYYYYY, Luke in the early stages of dementia [personality changes can feature in that....], and SO. MUCH. OTHER. ****. that no one, not one person!!!!! asked for.

It was almost like ppl were going "No, we cant put that in there, it would make things too cool and interesting! Nah we gonna put Leia in there flying through space without so much as a helmet on. Make it so!" and then they did that repeatedly.

They better not go near this **** with Mando. They really better not.

I've been avoiding all these YT leaks videos but it's pretty apparent that LF is getting ready to tie this into the ST whether we like it or not.

Can't say I disagree. The ST needs to just vanish, but Disney keeps insisting it's great. I have my DS Edition, Harmy, Clone Wars, Rebels and the first 2 seasons of Mando. Still a lot to enjoy, but NEVER the ST.
of all the Disney era star wars, I liked Rogue One, kinda like Solo, Mando was ok and Andor was good. Force Awakens was derivative trash that somehow folk were blind to flaws of at release, TLJ was just an absolute overrated insult to Star Wars, RoS was just so bad it is hard to find anything to compliment it on, BOBF was hilarious in a bad way and Kenobi was just plain embarrassing.

It is weird that Star Wars is in such a poor state. I mean, before TFA I was super positive. Lucas was no longer in charge so no Prequel level silliness, the OT cast were returning, it was going to be a sequel not another prequel where you know where it is going, There were going to be practical sets again, the power dynamics of the galaxy would be completely different, there was endless potential for story direction and villains, JJ Abrams seemed like a decent fit to direct (so long as he wouldn't write) and at the time Disneys MCU was peaking. What happened? how could they take what was supposed to be one of those "can't possibly fail" scenarios and mess it up so much? And not just once, but multiple times, each time making it worse and worse? It is almost so perfect a destruction of a property as to almost seem intentional. Bad decisions, missed opportunities, frequent attacks on the consumer and what did they get? Diminishing box office, a toy line that almost died completely (remember how little there was for RoS?) and enough lost goodwill that the brand is more disliked than liked. Even Kenobi was one of those "can't possibly mess this up when you have all these perfect ingredients" kind of projects and yet here we are, now Kenobi, Owen, Bail et al are all ruined too.

Back in 2014, Who would have thought that Boba Fett would be a joke, Kenobi pathetic, Bail and *****, Leia annoying, Han a deadbeat, Luke an A-hole, R2 and afterthought and Vader incompetent and that the fans favourite new character would be a knock off? We would have laughed and said "yeah right, go take your meds!"

And that out of the ashes Owen Lars of all people would emerge as the biggest badass, lol.

It’s easy to go on a rant, and I don’t entirely disagree…

But Boba Fett was always a joke. *gets knocked into a hole by a blind guy. Cue the Sarlacc burping*

Legend.

I digress. LF needs to know when they have a GOOD THING going and leave well enough alone. People like Mandalorian. They by and large don’t like the ST. They also liked the Mandalorian for not being tied to the ST. LF may be hoping they can redeem the ST by tying it to the Mandalorian.

… People will instead stop liking the Mandalorian if they start tying it to the ST.

When you’re picking your dodgeball team, there’s a reason you don’t want the dumb kid who eats glue and throws the ball at his own teammates to be on your lineup. You’re not propping him up; he’s dragging your team down.

Much like all of you, hated the ST. Terrible trilogy and a missed opportunity that can't come again even if they wanted to redo that shitheap due to actors passing.
The snippy, sparky comments from people at LF and the director, the constant toxic crap from the entertainment media, the huge division of the fandom.
It really stripped away the fan love I had for Star Wars. It tore Star Wars away from the special place it had and dumped it into the "Don't love unconditionally, can only pick out the bits I like, try to pretend the rest doesn't exist".
It's really sad to lose a love for something that has been special to ýou since you were a kid. ROTJ was the first movie I ever saw at the cinema.
Sure, I've picked out the bits I like and put together this little Star Wars bubble of "head canon" in my mind, I'll never forget the absolute travesty that has been committed on Star Wars.

I was very close to just walking away from Star Wars fandom altogether after the ST (well TLJ. TROS premiered just before the end of S1 of Mando right? Can you imagine if TROS was released before S1 of Mando started? I reckon I'd have walked away without even watching Mandalorian) but The Mandalorian pulled me back and gave me some hope.
After S2 of Mando, waiting for BoBF, after Boba's triumphant return, so happy and hyped for BoBF.
The Boba we got in S2, from the people that made The Mandalorian, doing a Boba series? I was so excited.
Then we got BoBF. Heart broken.
Then Kenobi. But the damage was already done for me, so when Kenobi was awful and Star Wars kicked me whilst I was down, I barely moved.

Then the glorious Andor. What a wonderful series.
Sadly though, apart from a second season, I doubt we'll get much more like it.
Gilroy is moving on from Star Wars apparently and with viewing figures being lower for Andor than the crappy stuff like BoBF and Kenobi, I suspect we'll more of that than stuff in Andors vein.

Oh well I think, continuing to just pick out the bits I like, I'll just add Andor season 1 and 2 to the stuff I like bubble and move on.
But going from a huge fan with passion for Star Wars to a very casual fan is jarring and takes some getting used to.
Mando season 3 coming up!

Then the rumours of linking into the ST. Bugger.
I can handle the odd little seed but full on links and leading into it? No. Just no.
That would be the last straw for me.

For me, Kenobi was worse than Boba.

Boba was pretty bad but we had a right laugh on here about it. Plus it did give us the awesome kitchen droid and a fun last episode - with a few other good things sprinkled throughout.

On the other hand, Kenobi was just bad. Cheap looking production, awful supporting characters; and the things that should have saved the series, like the final Vader fight looked like it was filmed in a dark car park filled with rocks.

The best thing from Kenobi is that Vader figure we're getting.

So true, as goofy as BOBF was the level of hilarity both while watching it and discussing it here was just unparalleled and impossible to look back at with anything other than fondness. That and the genuinely fun finale make it one of the real highlights of the Disney SW era, intentional or not. I watched each episode many times over, especially the last one.

OWK on the other hand did have some funny moments and fun commentary here but like you said the overall cheapness of it and so much time spent on Reva have caused me to surprisingly not revisit it once since it aired, a real shocker considering these were top tier PT characters played by Ewan and Hayden no less.

Vader snapping necks with the Force and his final showdown with Kenobi were awesome but apparently still not enough to overcome everything else.

OWK is a strange series, but I will readily admit I think it worked. BARELY. But it worked.

The quality is so wildly inconsistent. So many scenes take place on tiny sound stages or sets with cheap-looking props and terrible lighting that are in the ballpark of amateur fan film territory. Andor coming out soon after makes it look even worse. The pacing is hilariously shoddy (love the “I fixed the Leia chase” scene that just cuts right to her being kidnapped). Most of the acting ranges from average to just bad. Suspension of disbelief is constantly shattered (oh no! A laser fence they can walk around! Oh no, they’re doing the “hide the kid in the trench coat” routine!).

But, dang, if Ewan isn’t acting his *** off and treating it like an honor to step back into the role, and Hayden gives a performance that shut up so many “he’s wooden and a bad actor” claims. Every moment these two are together - even on badly lit sets - is electrifying. Vader’s rampage in the village took decades of desensitized and sanitized portrayals of him and gave us the coldest reminder of why he was considered one of the scariest and most impactful villains in film history. And their final duel I truly believe worked as an emotional climax that even elevated the original trilogy in some ways.

Those bits are so good that I mentally forget that “oh yeah, Reva is here too”.

Somewhere out there, a fan is feverishly editing the series into a kickass 90 minute film without any of the junk. And it’s glorious.
