I actually haven't seen it.Dude! Spoiler! I haven't seen Revelations yet. I've been saving it.
The character Switch was called that for a reason. In Zion they were whoever and in the Matrix they were a different gender altogether to play on the whole online avatar personality. I think it was dropped because it would have been too confusing or something. Today it would absolutely have been done that way.The entire Matrix trilogy (and beyond) was already filled with trans themes, y'know since the directors are themselves, so if you're gonna call this movie woke then you best call the others woke too.
Regardless of the in universe explanation, you can’t really deny that them being trans influenced it. Plus there’s more than just Switch. The character Switch was called that for a reason. I think this Matrix film will be good. However, they'll get greedy and make an underwhelming sequel. Same for Ghostbusters Afterlife. It's my personal opinion that there weren't any overt "trans" themes in the movies, and I'm not inclined to believe the directors saying that there are, if the interview is from any time in the last ten years or so. If someone unearths an interview from 1999 where they say that, I'll change my tune, but that really feels like revisionist history given that first one and then the other brother became sisters.
What is undeniable, however, is that all three original Matrix movies were "woke" (or whatever the 1999 term for woke was) as hell, and I never had a problem with it. From the very start it was "Straight white men are bad" and gay/minority/etc. is good. I don't think it was as annoying or in your face as all the current race-swapping/gay-baiting though because this was an original work and it was clearly the creators' intent to show that the last surviving members of the human race had gotten over such petty differences as race and sexuality. I mean, if you really wanna make a case about it, Keanu is part Asian, so yes, Virginia, there WAS an "Asian" super hero before Shang Chi.
I saw the original during its limited 20th anniversary release and it really holds up very well, in my opinion. Sequels I haven't watched in years, so I don't know.
As for this remake....it's just another unneeded, unwanted, waste of time rehash to toss on the pile like 3PO tossed those dead Jawa bodies.
It LOOKS nicer than I was expecting based on those tiny clips. But why? The story is over. Keanu had one hell of a run but sometime between John Wick 2 and 3 Father Time finally caught up with him. He's finally starting to look his age.
I don't wanna see Neo with jowls. And Carrie Anne Moss is 54. Isn't that a bit old to be pregnant? Oh wait, the Matrix. I forgot. When you can bring people back from the dead and they age normally for some reason, they may as well get pregnant well after menopause.
Should be interesting to see who makes the better movie -- the Wachowski boys or the girls.
I'm curious if Lily....
Here, have a reaction.Stop it. Lily? Come on now.
Here, have a reaction.
Now you stop it.
When I read both Wachowski brothers became trans, I couldn't believe it at first that both would go through it. One maybe but both? What were the chances? I thought this had to be some sort of prank. Until now, I still think this is some long term prank where at the end of this new Matrix trilogy, they'll either transition back to being men or change into something else. Lol! Just some weird thoughts in my head. What do I know?
