SO, is this a movie fans really wanted??

For me, The Matrix is a stand alone movie. A great film I enjoy watching. The 2 that came after were, well, terrible. I've never watched either a 2nd time and don't believe I ever will. I couldn't even tell anyone what they are/were about! :lol It pains me to think I'd have to watch them again before I considered giving this #4 a go.

I didn't even watch this trailer, because, well, why is there another Matrix movie?? Just for $$. Something tells me this is just being made because the "Bro's" are now the "Sisters". :monkey3

Hollywood is devoid of creativity. Everything has become cookie cutter and formulaic. Reboots, Remakes, Reimagining, Revisited, all the RE's. Of many movies/franchises that should never be RE anything..

I haven't heard that before. 🤭

Because, like the music industry, Hollywood has become Producer-driven rather than creative- or talent-driven for the last 20 years. Accountants/pollsters drive decisions.

There is the slight chance that this, because of the Wachowskis, may have a chance at feeling fresh... but I just doubt it. It's still WB, right?

Not really.... it won a bunch of Rassie awards. It's my favorite entry into the series, though, mainly for the music videos that ran throughout the movie.
I thought it was an entertaining film. A retired Rocky just wanted to spend time at home with his family and robot, but he had to fight one more time, for his friend and to end the Cold War.

Exactly! It's easily the most fantastical and exaggerated of the series, but given my age and when it was released, it's definitely the one I've seen the most. As ridiculous as it is, it's hard not to stop and watch it if I come across it while surfing.

https://ew.com/movies/lilly-wachowski-explains-not-involved-the-matrix/

"[Lana] had come up with this idea for another Matrix movie, and we had this talk, and it was actually — we started talking about it in between [our] dad dying and [our] mom dying, which was like five weeks apart," Lilly said. "And there was something about the idea of going backward and being a part of something that I had done before that was expressly unappealing. And, like, I didn't want to have gone through my transition and gone through this massive upheaval in my life, the sense of loss from my mom and dad, to want to go back to something that I had done before, and sort of [walk] over old paths that I had walked in, felt emotionally unfulfilling, and really the opposite — like I was going to go back and live in these old shoes, in a way. And I didn't want to do that."

That's a refreshingly honest and sensible thing to say. How rare it is to see someone acknowledge that they don't need the money just to turn out a cash grab nostalgia product with no meaning behind it. Lily said everything she wanted to in the original trilogy and wants to leave it at that. If only more artists respected their own work that much.

Indeed...

But based on the trailer, it's potentially good for the fans if the movie is good.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the problem some people have with risking bad sequels or remakes. If they turn out good then great, but if they turn out bad, yes it's disappointing but I just never watch them again and stick to the originals. The ST didn't ruin the OT, Robocop '14 didn't ruin Robocop '87.

Truly terrible sequels can easily be ignored, especially when none of the cast or writers come back, you know?

But as long as there's something that feels "official" about it, especially the same actors reprising their original roles, it's hard to pretend it doesn't exist. It stays in the back of your mind. The very idea of it pesters you.

RoboCop 2 pretty much sucks, but it's Peter Weller. It feels like I have to "acknowledge" it somehow.

I don't know. Must a nerd thing.

(For the record, I never considered the "Revenge of the Nerds" sequels as canon, either.)

No part of me accepts the Disney SW movies in any way though, despite the original actors. No George, no plan, just a lazy piece of **** slapped together as quickly as possible to recoup 4 billion dollars. That I can easily ignore.

I don't really like the prequels either, but I've begrudgingly accepted them cause they were George's work after all, and I have to admit I liked Boba so much on Mando it's hard not to accept Episode II now.

It actually makes sense when Lily talks about it in terms of her transition, which was more recent than Lana's. She wasn't ready to revisit the work of her former self, whereas Lana was.

But I agree that more Matrix is always better. And movies like BR2049 were the sequels we didn't know we needed.

Revisiting the Matrix might just remind the one that he was dude during the last trilogy lol

It's a little more complex with Star Wars where there is ongoing material that one may be enjoying currently but which may ultimately set up and thus acknowledge the ST. There's really no part of the ST that I want to accept as canon. There was some good scenes here and there but for me they didn't make the overall context worthwhile. With the PT I think they're a good story badly told. I can simply not watch them in a Star Wars marathon while accepting the return of certain characters and actors in new, hopefully superior material. There are some things from the PT I would prefer not to be directly referenced such as Anakin killing the younglings or Padme dying of a broken heart but generally it's possible to play 'pretend' when it comes to that era in SW lore - not unlike what we used to do before the PT movies existed.

With the sequels though, yeah, I'm not yet sure how I will navigate that if/when Mandalorian or anything else forward-references them. TBD.

I'm less fussy with The Matrix. No childhood attachment, it didn't change my life or anything. I was able to enjoy the sequels when others were let down by them. This 4th film could end up being a pointless endeavor or maybe it'll be good.
