And Eva jumping into the fire was so retarded. What was the purpose of that when she knew it wasn't Big Boss SINCE SHE'S THE ONE THAT PUT HIM BACK TOGETHER LIKE A CAR WITH BODY PARTS!!

:yuck

I don't think Eva intended to stand motionless in the fire. I think that she approached the body because it is after all one of her sons (or she was just acting to keep up the pretense that it was big boss), but she stood there motionless coz she got hit with FOXDIE. in fact, as she says her final words, i don't even remember seeing much (or any) visible burn damage on her

Could someone explain to me what "currently existing technology" means? :lol

Hey wait, I'm serious here. What does it mean?

In what context? Which line of script are you referring to?

It's when Mei Ling and MGS2 Campbell were explaining the Soliton radar.

"It's all made from currently existing technology, you won't be able to use it in an area with strong harmonic resonance, so be careful."

Does this mean that Mei Ling was holding out on giving Snake future tech? I remember a U.K magazine trashing the script for such a stupid line :lol

I chalk it up to as a cop-out way of taking the Radar off you during Alerts. How does people chasing you cause it to jam easily when you can just as easily run around without an alert and it doesn't jam? :lol

You're right. Gotta admit there's plenty potential in that line though:

"Hot Toys is proud to announce the long awaited 1/6 Solid Snake figure from Metal Gear Solid with newly sculpted muscular body with over 30 points of articulation.

- Head sculpt featuring authentic likeness Solid Snake.
- Approximately 31 cm tall
- Detailed hair sculpture, the bandana however is still sculpted
plastic, as it is made from currently existing technology."

Well Kojima never acknowledged any current military action that was after the Gulf War until MGS4. I wouldn't say it's irrelevant since MGS wasn't completely grounded to real world events and deposits it's own history within real world history. I do think he blew the whole PMC movement out of proportion. I can't see the world becoming a PMC state within five years of the Big Shell.

My question is, I know PMCs became big after the Big Shell. But what I want to know is what was the cover story for the island sized Arsenal Gear crashing in to Manhattan? Whatever happened to it since it was obviously removed from the island?

Yeah, that makes sense. As for the "War Economy", I never understood it, either. It's so strange that the world's financial system was so heavily entrenched in war stocks. After all, war isn't a commodity to be bought and sold like oil. I mean, wars can be fought for natural resources, but war isn't a resource itself to be fought over. People can't use war to fill up their gas tanks, or to create by-products for things like plastics and fabrics, etc. There's just too much to complain about in MGS 4 - I hope Kojima eventually retcons that entire game.

That's a good question about Arsenal Gear, by the way. The one thing that I found strange about the ending for MGS 2, was how everyone was so nonchalant after Arsenal Gear crashed into Manhattan - and after the former President took a dive into the George Washington monument and impaled himself. There wasn't any sort of mass-panic, no running and screaming on the streets. It's like people didn't even notice that a gigantic war ship just wiped out a huge section of NYC. I hate to say it, but it probably has something to do with the nanomachines inhibiting their senses :lol :slap. Maybe a cover-up wasn't even needed.

By the way, after giving it some thought, I don't think I'll copy-and-past the questions and answers on the opening post anymore :lol. A lot of topics are open-to-discussion, and it wouldn't make sense to select a "right" answer for those types of questions. Better to just discuss it out in the thread.

Wasn't Solidus a complete test tube baby unlike Solid and Liquid who were carried by Eva. That's why he was the 'perfect' clone as they were able to monitor his growth, making sure he got the right amount of each gene or whatever

Eva refutes that by saying "you need a woman's body." Will never know the mother, not that it matters. But it would be nice to know how exactly old he was compared to the twin Snakes.

Well, Solid Snake, Liquid and Solidus all originated from test tubes. That's how the Patriots were able to isolate their genes for the cloning process. It's plausible that Les Enfants Terribles was a just a test trial that ultimately failed. After all, Solid Snake possessed all of the recessive genes, and Liquid got all of Big Boss's soldier genes - which made him out-of-control and prone to war. The Patriots learned form their mistakes, perfected their methods in eugenics, and then went ahead and created Solidus, who was a perfect clone.

But, as for your question, Eva mentioned in MGS 4, that even clones have to be "born from a mother's womb". So, I guess that includes Solidus, as well. As to what constitutes a "womb" - that's another thing to think about. It's possible that Solidus could have originated from an artifical womb, instead of a human mother like Solid and Liquid. In that way, the Patriots could have monitored and controlled his growth more closely.

Yeah he was, but he was never given a birthdate which is pretty odd at this point since everything from the MGS universe is on the database.

He must of reached adulthood 10 years old since he trained Raiden as a boy in the 80s.

Assuming Solidus was born in '72 or even '73, Jack wasn't a child soldier until about '88 or '89, so Solidus would at least be in his late teens when he trained Raiden.

I don't understand why Ocelot chooses to become Liquid. I also dont understand how everyone accepts him as Liquid, he's Ocelot and thinking like Liquid. A person could act like a monkey, doesn't mean he is one

Well, Ocelot chose to induce the Liquid personality into his psyche to keep his cover. He'd rather have The Patriots and everyone else believe that he was Liquid, while he actually doing "Ocelot stuff" - which was, working behind the scenes to locate Big Boss's body from The Patriots and resurrect him.

But, like you said, his exact reason for choosing Liquid's arm didn't make any sense at all. I mean, how does he go from having an amputated arm, to: "hey, I'll just take this dead man's arm and replace my missing limb. And I'll even take on his personality to defeat The Patriots!". It's just one of those weird plot devices in MGS...

They should have done it similar to Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, at least that movie had a believable explanation why Joker was alive.

With Ocelot, it kinda seems silly beyond belief that he could just pretend to be Liquid without once proving that. That's just stoopid in any dimension.

In MGS4 after Snake went through the oven chamber and put the virus into GW, how is it that after Snake succeeded Liquid Ocelot said it was how he planned it? Wasn't he trying to take over the patriots?
