While I am a die-hard Sideshow collector, NECA is the one 'action figure' company I still collect regularly from (also the occassional Mcfarlane figure). I noticed we don't have a thread about them and I thought I might start one and see if anyone else here is a fan of NECA. I collect the following lines:

Pirates of the Caribbean
Harry Potter
Cult Classics (depends on figure/movie)

That is pretty much it, but a lot of stuff falls under Cult Classics. I also pick up the occassional movie lines like Kill Bill. Pirates has been given a great treatment with NECA that last couple of years. Davy Jones and his crew were finally done right with them. Sure I'm kinda getting sick of all of the Jacks (not as much anymore because of all of the Jacks in Jones' Locker) and the cheap rereleases like Barbossa, Pintel, and Regetti with the connecting bases (I'm a sucker for them). I just hope we get a new Davy Jones to fight the new Jack Sparrow.

The Harry Potter line is looking fantastic and is off to a good start.

NECA's Pirates line is quite perplexing. For some figures, the Johnny Depp likeness is amazingly accurate, and others he looks like a whole different person, it's odd to see so much variation amongst their line for his face, but the ones they nail are great, I have the 12" At World's End Jack and love it, looking out for the 7" AWE Jack, and I just scored the CTB Jack on eBay. I can't wait for the 18" Hannibal Lecter to come out, I have the 7" and it's great, I also have the Evolution of Evil Michael Myers 2-Pack and they're great, they're a very talented company, skilled as McFarlane but also having figures with a bit more range of articulation for the most part, where McFarlanes are pretty statuesque and stuck in one pose to look right.

Yeah I don't know what is up with the Jack likenesses since all but the new AWE Jack have been the same head (except the two smiling ones and the SDCC close eyed Cannibal version). The AWE looks awesome! I'm actually looking forward to that one the most strangely. They definately need to do a Jones to go with him (hopefully with an alternate head and both swords).

I really like that Hannibal too, but never saw him. :monkey2 I'll probably eventually hunt him down. The new white cell outfit one looks good too. I have the Halloween box set (with Loomis) and that is one of my favorite NECA items - they just nailed that.

Hannibal is worth it if you can track the first down, and I too am really looking forward to the cage scene one as well, "Ready when you are Sergeant Pimbry". As for the Myers Loomis pack, I've been on the fence about getting it because the Myers in the Evolution of Evil 2 Pack is the same one, so I really just want a Loomis but that's a high price on eBay to get one figure. Cannibal Jack was cool in the film, but part of that was watching it play out, not sure I'd want it in collectible form unless the collectible could blink :)

Not to poo poo your thread. But I'm really moving away from the NECA and McFarlane figures. Its sad, because I know a lot of these I'll probably never see in 1/6 (Medieval F'n Kurgan). But the lack of articulation and hit and miss figures has turned me off over time.

Because some of these figures won't be made by Sideshow or whoever anytime soon is probably my main reason I still collect them. Plus for some lines like Pirates or Harry Potter we get more characters we probably wouldn't see in 1:6 scale. The limited articulated, plastic statue quality is definately a unique style, that works most of the time, but sometimes is just doesn't.

The only NECA figure I own is the Kurt Cobain Unplugged. I like it quite a bit.

Thanks for the new Neca thread. ANyways does anybody own the new 18 inch Jack Sparrow?Pic? Appreciated.:D

I only have the 12" and 7" Jack, both are great, though the 7" lacks the eye shadow which is key to his look.

The 18" Jack is just the 12" Jack blown up, which is just the 7" Jack blown up and without the jacket. The jacket look is much better IMO. He never really did any fighting in AWE without the coat (I'm guessing the pose is supposed to be the Jones fight). I should get mine tomorrow along with a lot of other NECA stuff like Harry Potter and other PotC. I'll try to post pics sometime.

Thanks man.:D

I just started collecting some of the POTC figures. Does anyone have a picture of the completed diaromas from any of the series?

I have the CotBP treasure one and will have the island, dutchman, and bathhouse later today (birthday presents). I'll try to take pics of all of these later tonight when I get everthing opened.

So far I do have Sao Feng opened. His base looks like a repaint of a Dutchman base though and there are no istructions on where P&R's bases connect  Sao's left hand is permenatenly holding that little poker thing he was going to stab Will with. His other hand is closed, but is supposed to hold his sword. The endcap of the sword was bouncing around in the packaging so when I opened it, I super glued it to keep it in place. DUMB. The end comes off so the sword can be placed in his hand. D'oh! I'm sure I can undo it, but I'm just going to try and get a red cloth and put it in there instead since NECA forgot to add that to his ring. The sword is just on his belt with sheath. Pretty cool figure for a useless character. Likeness could be better though (lets just say they focused on the Fat instead of the Chow-Yun  )

So here is my take on the Harry Potter figures:

Death Eater
- one foot is a bit wiggly, but otherwise great. I did check the DVD and there is a Death Eater with this mask.
Skull Death Eater - better than the other death eater. Torch is cool.
Dementor - arms a limpy (think NBC Vampire) and stand it a bit wobbly. Otherwise awesome figure.

Harry Vs Voldemort Box set - skip the single carded figures entirely and go with the box set. Its the same figures, accessories, and bases plus the cool Riddle Grave - all for less than the cost of the two single figures at retail. I don't know how NECA does that. Very cool set. If you have a chance, watch out for Voldemort's wand since it rubs againts the clear plastic of the box.

OotP Harry
- glasses look much better on this Harry, but the pose if farily dull/basic. Overall, a nice figure of the new hairdo.
Ron - love the untucked shirt, and good head sculpt. Paint makes him look like he has lipstick or some lip problem though. Watch out, his feet were a bit warped in the package.
Hermionie - another great sculpt, but like Ron her feet were a bit warped from the packaging.
Sirus - probably the best in the OotP wave. Has a nice action pose and great likeness to Gary Oldman (I think. I have no idea what the guy looks like in real life since he is always different in each movie :lol )
Dummy Death Eater - a fairly basic Build-a-figure that adds a nice value to H,R,H (no parts for sirus). The back isn't finished so it can't really be displayed other than facing you. A minor nit, but Sirius could have easily come with the back if they wanted to (or it could have just been done properly the first time).

I'm disapointed that the OotP bases are just plan black and not themed like the first series. They do work well, but a huge selling point for me are connecting bases like the PotC figures.

Pics coming tonight (I hope).

Ditto, I dropped 99.9% of my neca/mcFarlane stuff on ebay.

They kicked major ass in their day thats for sure, and for a good price they are really not bad to own. If you are a collector on a buget, they are surley to way to go.

Oh I agree. McFarlane can still make some cool stuff, but NECA is who really has the cool licenses though (can anyone say Highlander? :monkey3 ). I'll be picking up Mc's Jack Bauer when that comes out and probably more LOST figures. Other than that, most of the plastic statues I want are NECA's.
