Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Do you know how much money it would be to have all 14 of the group plus Gandalf plus any other character( I could think of at least 2 dozen)...Lots of dough folks if they make as many pieces as they did for LOTR...Figures or Statues, Environments or Dios...it wont matter...Lots of bucks in the end...I'm actually worried a bit moneywise here...

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

It's not gonna be cheap but having a full collection of lotr statues and hobbit statues is going to be awesome. Middle-Earth started in statues and honestly that's where it needs to be.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Statues are boring as ____. There I said it. :)

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I don't think I've ever changed a pose on a figure once I've posed it, nor have I ever posed a figure in a dynamic pose so I think articulation is just a nice option for my needs.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

HT 1/4 will be the end of polystone.

Why would anyone choose static over dynamic in the same scale.

IMO lord of the rings looks best represented in statue form. That's where it started 10 years ago and where it should remain.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

yeah, saw that this morning as well on torn. can't wait to see the teaser! :rock

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

Apparently the teaser trailer has been shown at some film festival! :rock

That would be the annual Butt-numb-a-thon held by Harry Knowles at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin. He manages to get some excellent up- and-coming movies and trailers for showing every year ahead of official openings. Apparently, those in attendance had to sign a non-disclosure statement until it premiers in front of Tintin on 20 Dec in the US.

Re: The Official "The Hobbit" movie thread

I think it's silly to debate the whole "dollies" and statue route. If HT did obtain the license it's not like it'll hurt the statue line at all. Also, HT's offerings would look a lot better than what we got from Sideshow in terms of their 1/6 figs with way better clothes, paint and likenesses from HT (as long as it wouldn't turn out like another Indy). I also like skin texture, etc. It's hard to argue with results like this:

I would love to see The Hobbit or LOTR get the same treatment.

On the statue side of things I do like my dynamic statues as well with poses that would be hard to pull off with figures such as Legolas and Gimli on Arod where we have Gimli not only falling off the horse, but he has that hilarious expression on his face. Both statues and HT can be pretty awesome imo.

Hmm methinks you haven't seen the statue up close, as Gimli isn't falling off, he's just holding onto Legolas for balance, and he hasn't got a 'hilarious' expression on his face, he's shouting as he swings his axe :lecture

I guess that depends on the paint job... :rotfl

I own the statue, so yes I've seen it up close. I'm aware he's holding onto his hood for support to prevent himself from falling (I'll more than admit I didn't type it out right before bed as poor of an excuse as that is) and about to strike with his axe. Gimli's face while about to strike to me looks pretty hilarious (mostly just because it's Giml and his expressions always make me smile, but I should've used a different word) and I was trying to support you statue collectors by saying you don't get expressions like that with figures a lot of times. We do sometimes get alternate portraits, but not often enough and even when we do, we can't get the clothing and hair etc to look dynamic like with this statue on Arod. Both have their advantages.

It's all good if manufacturers and artist keep making LOTR goodness for us to choose from. Keep the choices and various formats going :lecture
