Re: re

I've got Grima too both statue and bust and as I collect all the busts I have to say the bust collection currently just does not look right without IMO Eowyn, Faramir, Denethor and Morgul Lord, I mean not that everyone wants it but a Morgul Lord bust, now who wouldn't buy that??? Is it because Narnia and Kong are coming that they have chopped off the LOTR line? I think it is, maybe they don't have enough staff to cope with the hand painting!!! Heck I'll do it!!!! Actually no I won't .........:puke

Re: re

They probably had the prototypes for the final three done a while back, so with the time constraints and the impending release of the Narnia/Kong and their need for something to show at SDCC...they couldn't commission a new LOTR sculpt (faramir/deneothor.. whatever).

But you know, if it wasn't faramir it'd be another character or scene that people would be crying about.

Re: re

Yes Winged Shadows its true we probably would have found another character to cry about but to be fair in this instance we shouldn't HAVE to cry about it, they should have made these last one or two busts/statues that are intregral to ROTK, its blatantly obvious they had other stuff coming and rushed the line out, hell we are even under a shipping attack with lots of stuff coming at once which in the past there was always a welcome delay on stuff so our credit cards could breathe!!
Anyway, again there will always be disgruntled people out there but I do think that people are complaining not because its over but because SS have fallen short on finishing a truly superb line of collectibles.

Re: re

I know Dassy, but all I see is a stream of people saying the same re: Faramir.

"The copped out."
"They're in it for the money."
"They don't care about 'us'."

It's probably true, but ain't it time we come to terms with the decision and moved on?

:)

Re: re

Just for the record I have Grima's statue and Eomer's bust.
After all the riders on steed statues I am astounded that they didn't make some Rohan charactor on steed.
Faramir deserved at least a bust.

Oh well:toast

Re: re

True WS,but this thread started by FE Was only yesterday.lol;) So many are adding to it because it`s the first time they have seen it.

:peace Brother

Parting thought!
SS Dont like human statues because i`ts hard to capture the likeness,Creatures/Monsters and such are okay!

Re: re

Well I for one am having a hard time coming to terms with it, the more I look at my display daily the more I find it ridiculous that in amongst those busts in particular I will NEVER have a Faramir, Eowyn, Denthor or Morgul Lord bust and given that I am only interested in LOTR SS products (altho the new Narnia and Kong stuff looks great but not for me) it p**ses me off that when I started my collection of busts (I have them all) that these are missing from there and its like why bother going to all that trouble and detail with the first two movies and then just stop like that for the third one, I mean at the end of the day we are ALL really only talking about between 1 and 4 statues or busts here, why couldn't they just finish what they started????:\

Re: re

Here here Wrath. That's how I feel. I collect statues and busts, and would have settled for either a statue OR a bust. But to get neither just seems unbelievable.

I've bought darn near everything SSW has put out. I bought it because the line was so complete with its offerings. I never expected that in the end, major characters would be left out when I have countless generic orcs and a Gil-Galad bust.

There was a time when I considering selling all my pieces and buying the bronze Gandalf - a representation of my favorite character in the perfect pose for me. However I passed because I decided I wanted a representation of EVERYONE and not just Gandalf. At this point I’m really wishing the bronze Gandalf was still available for order…

Based on previous offerings, I assumed something like Faramir and Denethor were givens. That’s why this hurts so badly. And given the recent huge edition sizes, I assumed sales were certainly good enough to put these products on the market.

Re: re

I am with you ramblinj BUT WHAT CAN WE DO??? Does anyone in SS read these posts and if so would they even consider finishing the line given the number of fans that are unhappy??
Somehow I fear not...........:bang

Re: re

I really don't think there is anything to be done at this point. People from Sideshow definitely read a lot of posts on here, but I kind of doubt this was Sideshow's decision.

If Sideshow could announce items this year and ship next year, and if prototypes exist, we probably have a chance in a billion of seeing these pieces. Otherwise, we have 0.

Re: re

It's pointless saying we should move on when it's SDCC weekend and everyone there will be asking the Weta team about this! Lots of people want to hear Weta's opinions, and I look forward to anything they say, we shouldnt bottle it up, we should ask them about it, come to terms with it, and have closure! Ahem.
Sorry I couldn't answer a previous question - us folks in Europe have to sleep! I read this info from Chuck on LOTRGuide, came here to read any other info on it, found none so decided to start a thread myself as people would want to know.
I don't agree with the statement that if it wasn't this, there would be something else to complain about. Yes we might, but when you go through a list of all the major characters from the film, Faramir - and to a lesser extent Denethor - is/are the only character/s to have no statue or bust. All the creatures are represented, and all the characters apart from these two. That's what I'm disapointed about. I can display my Eomer bust on my Rohan shelf, but my Gondor shelf looks a bit bleak. I wouldnt start an argument saying "Why no Celeborn" or "Why no Haldir", because they ARE lesser characters, Faramir is not.
And hearing SSW say that they're sorry if we feel they left out a couple of secondary characters, well Faramir is the only one most people are bothered about, and he is more bordering on main character than secondary opposed to other characters as I've mentioned above.

I'm not ripping my hair out over the situation, it's not a major loss after everything we have, but I still see it as strange and not really giving much thought to a collector who has every noteworthy creature and character represented in their collection apart from Faramir!

Re: re

Well I have ripped my hair out, Frodoeyes, everywhere!!!:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

Re: re

Move on to where or what?
The LotR line is all I truly collect from Sideshow. SW doesn't interest me enough to buy statues from, Kong never interested me at all.

It is sad to see the collection fail in the representation of some major characters, characteristic warriors or important environments. We have a Haradhrim and Easterling statue, but no High Elven warrior or Gondorian soldier.
No Faramir or Denethor who are both instrumental to the story. Not even an Eomer on horseback.
No Barad-dur, no Mount Doom, no Rivendell. *sigh*

And why not release the items that were done already? Hobbiton mill, Moria cemetary, Fellowship Pippin...

In a strange sort of way, the Mumak they released is a good representation of the end of the line.... where it could have been a great, all powerfull grand finale, releasing the last few essential characters and environments, they sort of fade away, faltering like the dying Oliphaunt.

Totally agree Peter!

I think its lame the off-handed comments about secondary characters, the LOTR line from SSW is incomplete - simple as that.

What I want to know is who decided to end the line in an incomplete state? What was their reasoning?

This line started strong, created some incredible pieces of collectible art, then became bloated on large ES and multiple's of the same character, experienced problems in production with paint jobs and capturing facial likeness, and now has been abandoned by their creators.

I get the feeling Sideshow & Weta had all found this too difficult and were ready to move on.

I guess SS main concern is for 'barbie dolls'. :rolleyes A lot easier to manufacture.

A lot of the new stuff from Aliens, Predator, Terminator is impressive, but is very 'movie collector' orientated. Low ES & high price tags.

I guess LOTR is bigger than collecting stuff from one of many movies.

Long rant I know, but I only collect LOTR, so I wont be moving on to anything else. All I can say is Im glad Im not a completist, as the line is NOT complete, and I would feel very betrayed. :speech

Re: re

Me too, And I suspect it is probably going to be about the last business I do with sideshow. I am a fan of the star wars line, and will probably pick up a piece here or there.

I also would have really gotten into the Marvel line, but it seems that sideshow has decided to place themselves into a different price range from this point forward.
Most piece of most of the lines are coming in at >$300 each. Far too much to consider keeping a whole line going.

Well said Gozum! I am a LOTR bust completist and that sums the whole thing up for how I feel.:bang

Re: re

i wish you would change your avatar... i keep thinking i posted your posts... :thwak

Yeah and they should have given all of the statues away too since we know they aren't in this for the money! :thwak
