I have 17 things on order and 4 on waitlist. Two PFs I might cancel, but they aren't due till the 3rd and 4th quarter so we'll see then.

This thread is kinda funny to me. I don't even see this hobby as one that someone "quits and comes back to", unless they were to rid themselves of every last statue or collectible. Just owning one piece gives you the title of "collector".

I could see how a collector could burn themselves out due to a lack of collection focus. But to me, that is a great problem to have. Better to have a huge selection and get burned out, then to have minimal selection and give up due to lack of interest. Just my opinion though. I myself focus on strictly the movie stuff with a primary interest in Arnold Schwarzenegger. (Conan PF in less than a week!!! Woot!!)

And as far as the constant bickering over "he's too skinny" or "the likeness is off" I just ignore that garbage. Ultimately, you the individual collector shells out the cash to obtain what you deem to be worthy of your collection. Not the random, double down syndromed message board warrior who has nothing better to do than to get puffy chested on the internet.

I agree with this to an extent, but my problem comes when as you say

I myself focus on strictly the movie stuff with a primary interest in Arnold Schwarzenegger.

You invest passion and energy into a product, I think what niggles me and others is when you invest passion and money in a line that has its ups and downs rather than a constant flow of top quality product.

When you see items that wont be made again by a particular manufacturer, made incorrectly

If all your Conans had flaws that stood out like a sore thumb to you, youd stop spending your money, and then realise that the money you previously spent on a product line is now worth sweet F.A. compared to what you originally paid, probably due to the inconsistent nature of the line you invested in !

So you bite the bullet give your stuff away for next to nothing and buy into lines you know will retain their value, but wheres the passion there ! Buying cause you dont want to piss money away ?
