Correct. Killing has gone hand in hand with film, forever. Every character is corrupted in one way or another, a movie would be so bland following a cookie cutter unproblematic lead. Even a romance novel has to be some kind of thrill or it doesn’t sell.

What made it ruthless was Victor doing everything for Penguin yet he was still killed even AFTER all of that talk from Penguin about helping the forgotten.
Penguin is so bad that he even kills those he’s trying to help.
He gave victor all of those motivational speeches and ar the end he was discarded like a used tampon.

I don't care for the 'look' so much, but I'm glad someone finally made Penguin a believable, threatening figure for modern audiences.
Yeah but Ledger tied Harvey and Rachel up, blew her up, tried to kill the Mayor, blew up a Judge, shot a city cop regulating traffic point blank with a shotgun. Shot a cop in the hospital. Blew a hospital up, hung a guy by the neck for cosplaying Batman, burned Lau, implanted a phone bomb inside an inmate, set the Bank Robbers against eachother, attempting to pit clean civilians against the prison inmates.
Every part of the film was what more can he antagonize the city with. How do you top a villain written like that.

Fair points but none of those you mentioned were Joker’s allies they were all of his antagonist.
Victor was in his inner circle who he mentored from the ground up and trusted.

Yeah but if it weren’t for him killing Vic he’d not be comparable in the slightest, he let Sofia be arrested instead of cutting off loose ends like The Joker would. He was cutting power on for his mother. Not orchestrating a cohesive methodical plan of the entire city crumbling.

True but I did say the single most ruthless thing not overall % of success which Penguin was no slack either but I get your point.
Penguin’s failures go with the comics as do Joker’s perfection.

I mean i’ve experienced more conflict deciding if i’m eating whole wheat or white bread in the morning than Penguin did killing Vic.

And that’s the point, the guy was baggage from the beginning and he knew it but had chores, so he used him to complete a task. You’re not a bad guy if you let accessories to murder walk.
He almost buried him earlier on with the dead guy.

It was nice that Oz didn't become some 'misunderstood' anti-hero with a heart of gold.
It started to look like Oz was going to prove everyone wrong, with them saying he would do or say anything to save his own skin. They developed the relationship with his mom, he has a girlfriend (sort of), the backstory with his brothers was sort of like "Oh, it was just an accident, he didn't mean to"
But nope, they were right. He's pretty much a psychopath.
I'd be interested in hearing more from the writers, or Colin, about what they feel is Penguin's deal. He seemed to have an 'unhealthy' love for his mother, with the implication that he left his brothers for dead, so he could have his mother all to himself.
Bring on Batman II, so I can see Penguin get the snot beat out of him.
But what was up with people getting stabbed in the gut and just walking it off? Maroni got shanked, then escaped from Blackgate and survived another few days with no apparent ill effects. Oz got stabbed with a broken bottle and just stapled himself back together.

I agree Oz was handled perfectly.
Regarding the 2 stabbings.
Maroni might’ve known he was going to be attacked thru his jail connections and prepared for it with padding given to him by corrupt guards.
Remember, they don’t show the full fight. It just seems like he got stabbed, but there could’ve been protection under his shirt and then they cut away.
He obviously overpowered the guard we just don’t see it.
Or he did get hurt enough which lead to him having a heart attack later on.
Regarding Penguin because he had a gut it was just fat that got punctured which they showed and not his actual intestines.

Man. Joker 2 did so much damage we are now putting penguin above Heath joker. Damn.
Honestly tho. Every bat villian is unique and you can play around with them in different ways. There is a reason he has the best rogues gallery in comics. Unlike Spider-Man villains who don’t work without Spider-Man Batman villains work well without Batman . It has a lot to do with Gotham being a character in its own and not just a city.
