I wasn't expecting this to be as good as it was. In terms of pure action/combat scenes, this has to rank up there with some of the best stuff I've seen--and with just enough of a plot to make it all hang together.

I was expecting all action and no story. But several of the characters had secrets/motivations/loyalties that revealed themselves at different points, altering the course of the plot in unexpected ways. So I would not characterize this as a movie with no story. It has a very basic concept (Die Hard in a high rise--oh, wait a minute...) with a modest amount of character development driving the action forward.

There were no story "twists" that I didn't see coming a mile away and there was no character development to speak of to be found. The action and fights were awesome but there was no meaningful story to be found and as I said, that wasn't a bad thing as it was all I was expecting it to be.

No twists; but character development elements were present: old guy trying to get ahead; brother versus brother; squad leader trying to hang on, etc.....I dunno, worked for me in context of balls-to-the-wall action

it almost had that hostel feel when the machete guys were checking the walls. i effin enjoyed the knife fight scenes.

Saw this movie a few days ago. Great, great action flick. Incredible fight scenes with a decent story. I went ahead and ordered Merentau, the first Iko Uwais film that made him popular in Indonesia. I'm also happy that they're making a sequel to Raid. It seems Iko might turn out to be the new Tony Jaa.:D

One of the benefits of being a board member is learning about things you never heard of. I had no idea this movie existed until stumbling upon this thread.

Based on comments here, I just came back from seeing this. I enjoyed the hell out of it. Some of the best fighting sequences I've ever seen.

There were some real wtf moments here. :google :rock
