It felt Like it dragged a little, might have just been my mood.
I thought so too. They spent a little too much time with her attending to her wounds. I get it. It's for that gore factor, but it feels forced. The shark biting and killing is all the gore this movie needed.
Also, the wounded seagull she spent time with on the rock. Less of that and more screen time for the shark would have been better.
Despite these issues, I still enjoyed the movie and I will watch it again when released for home.

Just watched this movie... If you can get by Mandy Moore's poor acting it is a pretty intense film.. Better then The Shallows IMO but I was disappointed in that one.. Has a better Breaching Money shot then the Shallow also :)

Anyways weird history with this film... I pre ordered a week before it came out on Blu ray and DVD and then a movie company bought the rights and are going to release it in theaters next year (probably due to the success of The Shallows) Anyways you can't get it anymore on Amazon... Its been pulled. So I guess I got lucky.

Not a perfect film at all. My wife thought it was really intense. It did make me jump once and that don't happen often with me. CGI sharks were anywhere from OK to very well done. Some of the issues I had with them are the same I had in The Shallows... They are done to look too realistic only to not act like real sharks at times.. Just sort of off putting... Weird coming from a JAWS fan but Bruce looks like part Monster shark... Oh yeah and it's a perfect movie..

Here is the poster. Should be out early Jan.

Well that was my issue... The first part of the film kept it pretty realistic which I loved. Then it went a bit too far. I think had the shark not looked so much like a real great white and yet act nothing like a real great white in the last 20 min, I could have enjoyed it more. I think that is why Bruce gets away with some of his actions in JAWS... On the other hand sharks have been known to attack cages, boats, breach and fall into or on boats... But I can't think of any that have chased boats :lol either way JAWS gets away with all of it due to perfect film making.

The Shallows was still fun overall and a decent thriller... It just lost me in the last ten min...
The Sharks demise made me role my eyes and giggle.

The change up from serious thriller to a really well made sci fi channel movie was too jarring for me. Perhaps with a second viewing and knowing where the film is going I will be ready for it and enjoy it more.

Just watched this and find myself siding with JAWS on this one.

It was decent and I don't think my time was wasted in having watched it, I just think it got a little silly towards the end. I'd have preferred if they could have got an exciting conclusion while maintaining a more realistic behaviour from the shark....though admittedly I'm not sure what that could be.

Yeah I've been itching to see it again on the big screen and thought it was gone for good until the $2 theater down the street picked it up today. Looking forward to one more viewing before the blu-ray hits later this month.

So The Shallows should be available for rental in October then. Awesome, I can't wait to finally see this movie.

It wasn't too bad. The part where the drunken guy just all seemed random and I guess they saved money there.

Overall, I enjoyed it but from the jellyfish to the end, I just accepted it:lol

Gonna check out that movie, Jaws.

Cool! I missed this post earlier. I'll be on the lookout for this one.

Caught this on the big screen one last time. Just as good on the second viewing and a definite Top 3 movie of the year so far for me. So well done from beginning to end with a pounding, ominous score. Really looking forward to seeing what kryptonianmutie, YoNoSe, and Gaspar think of it.

It may just be me, but I love the ending. I think it's original, compared to other shark movies where often the shark disappears or is blasted by freaking nuclear misses lol.

I grabbed the 4k, and I'm honestly considering going to GameStop after school and grabbing an Xbox One S just for this movie.

No I'm with you, I loved the ending. It did about as much of a 180 from Open Water as you could possibly get at that point but I thought the film made a very entertaining transition from realistic to popcorn entertainment and I must say it was fun to not know how it was going to be resolved even minutes before the finale.

I loved how the movie seamlessly overlapped "restrained and artsy" with "pulse pounding thrills" from beginning to end.

If there is any film this year that should be watched in 4k, it's The Shallows! I kept thinking of Dredd during some of the scenes. That's the last movie I saw that just blew me away with its visual style. I have a feeling Blake lively's character will become a pop culture icon after this hits cable. She's the best "forced into becoming a badass by circumstances" chick I've seen in a long time. I hope they don't make a sequel because it's unnecessary, but I would like to see the director team up with Lively for another picture with a bigger budget. The CG for the shark got worse as the film went on. And man that shark was hungry!

:rock

Blake's performance and surprisingly organic transition from Blue Crush surfer into Action Hero is what allowed me to accept and even embrace the craziness at the end. Loved it.

I agree that the shark effects peaked with the breach scene and when it was thrashing in the coral up against her little rock island. It looked totally real in those scenes! But for some reason some relatively simple effects like its dorsal fin above the water at the end when it was charging the buoy looked less convincing. I noticed in the credits they had like a dozen visual effects companies, I've got to assume that they were taking turns doing the shark and some really nailed it, others not so much.

I can't imagine they'll make a sequel. The Shallows 2. The Shallows 3D. The Shallows The Revenge. :lol Then again Open Water did get a straight to video sequel so maybe something like that will happen with The Shallows with another group of surfers or something. Not that I'd care because as you said I'll always see this as a stand alone picture.

But glad you liked it! :yess:

The Shallows 3D!

But only if it's got Jerry O'Connell in it:
