I thought this movie was going to be a disaster but from what I can tell it's shaping up nicely. Its a prequel to the original, and will focus on the Norwegian team that discovered the alien. Apparently the reason it will be in english is the main character is an American, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who's a paleontologist brought in to help with the recovery. There is also a good bit of Norwegian spoken in the film from what I understand.

Bootleg version of the trailer is up, its good enough that you can make out whats going on most of the time and hear it, but the quality is kinda ____ tbh. The real trailer is supposed to be out any day now. Heres the bootleg if you can't wait.

So they had to put a woman in there because she could speak English. Can you say shoehorn?

I love that Zombie Zombie video. It's been on my "favorites" list for years.

I would have been down with no english but I doubt most horror fans would accept it. Probably for the best.

Anyway I forgot to mention this was pushed back to October, but in order to have enough time to properly complete the effects so not really bad news.

Two people who can speak english.

Plus...it's MEW........:drools:

Haven't seen Scott Pilgrim but I am in love with her from Death Proof.

I understand they had to have an English speaking person in the movie for mass market here in the US, but to make it an attractive woman seems contrived.

remember "the thing" rips the clothes off............:panic:

i will give it a watch but this prequel has some mighty big shoes to fill.....:lecture

the original is among my faves of all time.

Actually thats not true, its a ploy the Thing trys to use in order to frame MacReady. Proof would be the Bennings or Palmer scenes. Clothing fully intact.

Its not if it takes you over, rather if it transforms entirely, like the Blair thing. So basically the only way your seeing Mary's boobs is if they are mutilated thing tissue like the dogs or fly trap things.

it actually great to see classic get re-boot or prequels on what leads to the original event. Can't wait to see it soon

Going to wait to see the high quality trailer, but yeah, i agree, no need for a woman, never mind a hot one, in this film. I love a hot chick as much as the next guy, but it's completely unecessary in this film.

Obviously I have reservations. The original Thing would never have been made the way it was if it was released today. But I am also excited since the original was so brilliant. You can always have hope (even though it seems to get squashed almost everytime)

I think your underscoring Mary with the hot woman comments, you know she can actually act as well? They didn't cast Megan Fox. Most actresses are attractive women after all...

If you listen to/read the director interviews, I think you'll gain a ton of faith in this production, you can tell he didn't rush anything, was very careful in his decisions including casting Mary, and got alot of support from the studio to do it his way. All of what I've seen including the delay is good news. He wanted the delay to have more time to get the effects done correctly.

And from what I can see of the trailer, it looks pretty kick ass and like it retained the feel of the original pretty well for 30 years later.
