You're probably about 10 years too young. It came out in the early 80's. At first it was a pilot movie just titled "V" or "V - the original battle". Popularity caught on and then they had a miniseries called "V - The Final battle." That was very successful, so Hollywood decided to milk the crap out of it and put on what is now probably unwatchable a "V - The mini series." The first two movies were great. The mini-series got really bad and lacked the budget that the prime time movies had.

But is was still very good for a TV series back in the 80's. Same time as approximately Miami Vice, Knight Rider, Dallas, etc.

TV shows were a lot different back then. There was no reality TV shows and MTV actually showed videos. So your choices were sitcoms, game shows, crime dramas, edited movies on the weekends sometimes, and once in awhile a network would bank on budgeting a mini-series like this. It really was an awesome show. I remember going to 3rd or 4th grade and talking about it with my buddies from school.

This really was a well done TV series for it's time, I'm gonna have to get the whole set of DVD's before this hits in November of this year.

I never saw the original series, but I did catch the premiere episode at Comic-Con. It looked pretty interesting, plus Juliet from LOST is in it!
I may have to check out this original series too, before the new one comes out.
