With D.C. no longer in play and with a cure possibly no longer in the cards, what is there to do but survive? Why do they bother, why do they keep on keeping on? It'd be much easier to just shoot each other in the head.

How do people exist/persist with no clear objectives in mind? That's pretty interesting in and of itself, if you ask me.

That would be a great existential conundrum for the characters to ponder, but basically you're going to have the group encounter some other group, some characters will die and the adversary will be destroyed. Like I said wash, rinse, repeat. This show has the highest ratings in cable history. I don't, unfortunately, see the writers and producers changing the formula.
I do think that an interesting spin is having Rick's group face off against an adversary that isn't evil and is actually made up of good people. Most of the adversaries they face are always evil or what not.
What happens when Rick's group has to kill a group of people who may be better and more moral than them?

That sounds interesting, but we all know Rick's group is the "good group" and it'll eventually come across an "evil group." It's pretty much a matter of who survives at the end. It's almost an afterthought what that end is.

Agreed. But if they truly wanted to make the show interesting again and it's all about survival then facing off against good people in order to survive should be something that is addressed. In the Walking Dead world Rick's group shouldn't be the only group that has "good" intentions.

Well, for whatever it's worth, on the last Talking Dead Kirkman mentioned there was need for change in the show and change would be happening. Whether thats good or bad, I don't know. Though, there seemed to be some measure of dis-satisfaction in his voice and body language during the show, but that could have been him feeling uncomfortable because he had to sit next to Emily Kinney (Beth) the whole time as she kept bawling over the demise of her character.

she wasn't balling, Hardwick was doing his best to get her to cry. She just got caught up in the moment and good for her. Prob landed her a gig somewhere else because of it.
