You ever watch Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman? I'd give that a watch. If you can't understand/coherently follow 90% of what they're talking about there, Big Bang Theory isn't for you. :wink1:
I have seen that show. Fun to watch.

I can follow it fine. But those jokes aren't my issue with the show. It's the nerd jokes. Or the comic/movie/toy nerd jokes. It irks me. I don't care for them. If I'm going to watch a show full of nerds, I want to relate to them. I can, however, relate to Ben Wyatt from Parks and Rec. :( Yikes.

Also, not a fan of laugh tracks. I'm sure How I met Your Mother is a great show, but that laugh track makes it impossible for me to enjoy. It's just a thing I developed after years of watching sitcoms with my parents as a child. I like them better without a laugh track. I feel more engaged. More alert.

So the root of the issue is, you're uncomfortable being labeled a nerd. :lecture:lecture:lecture:exactly:

As a guy who watches the Science Channel, Discovery and National Geographic, and yes, enjoys Through the Wormhole when I can get a chance to watch it, I too don't like BBT. I gave it about 10 minutes (not a lot, I admit) and could no longer take anymore. I could understand the jokes just fine, they just did not make me laugh. If anything the jokes seemed more Science Lite than anything challenging like some on here make it sound.

The only show that I like (or liked) that made jokes about science that might go over the heads of many of the viewers was Futurama.

What the ****ing Christ does this have to do with watermelon chargers? :dunno

where would they get the watermelons in the first place? Seems pretty hard considering their situation

Big Bang theory...
some people refer to it as the "nerd blackface"

Not all nerds like the show, some jokes are kind of funny. but most of the time it is just... meh. It's kind of annoying actually.

the way I see it is, if your show Needs a laugh track (And it is not Seinfeld) it is pretty lowbrow to begin with.
Good comedies usually do not need laugh tracks. (except Seinfeld)

Besides Big Bang Theory is from the same mind that created two and a half men... so.... yeah.... Kind of like "Science Lite with a laugh track to make Middle America feel smart while at the same time mocking those same nerds"

To me personally Big Bang is like how regular people see nerds (kind of). People are not laughing with the characters, people are laughing At the characters. Some jokes are funny but most of the time the humor comes from making fun of them. Not from intelligent humor.

Some people find it offended actually and stereotypical "a stupid show about smart people." I've heard it been called by other nerds.

We should have known some killer virus was coming after all those Woodbury people came to the prison. No way were they going to keep the cast that big with how cheap AMC is.

Most network shows have to pander to the lowest common denominator that's why the shows aren't funny. Most people have a lowbrow sense of humor, slapstick stuff and need a laughtrack to tell them when the show made a "funny". I can't stand any network comedies at all. Especially if they have a laughtrack. Made it through one TBBT, as my Dad was watching it.

Geez, not only am I a hipster now, I'm also a lowlife.

Just because you don't like the show doesn't mean that everyone who does is beneath you.

I don't go into the Family Guy thread (does it exist anymore?) and call them a bunch of idiots for watching that crap.

They talk trash because to them, potty humor and fart jokes are funnier than jokes about free radicals. Don't get angry, pity them. :wink1: :lol
