Because isnt that a comic book? Why would Veidt have a folder for a comic book that doesnt exist? What other thing could "Boys" be?

You got me. If it's not a collection of comic book scripts it must be his kiddie porn collection!

I believe at the comicon panel, Goode mentioned that he thought Ozy was gay. I believe he said something to the effect of not wanting to be typecast playing gay characters. Something along those lines. Not that it means that is what Moore was going for. He did have those man servants in the graphic novel, though.

The point I intended to make is that Veidt may have been more open to
experimentation than an average male in the middle-seventies due to the nature of his role model/idol.

Since you seem to be an expert on everything, "Dr. Phil", why don't you educate us some more in the unassailable opinions of [drum roll, please] "bartleith"?

Or perhaps he was gay, and he found out that Alex was BI....so maybe thats why he felt kinship towards him....

Very good angle. I had not thought of that. But as I said earlier, gay or straight, who cares? Ozzie did what he did.

The bigger question is whether you believe the "end justified the means."

No, I was serious. Thanks. It was a somewhat cynical remark about the nature of most posts here.

It's obvious that "boys" on the computer is a joke and it's intent is to nail down Ozy as gay. I don't think there's any other reading of it than that. It's not subtle or necessarily smart - but I don't think it's a great leap to identify Ozy as at least metrosexual if not gay in the film.

What is the definition of "metrosexual" anyway? I sort of grokked it as urbane, cosmopolitan, Joey Harrington as opposed to Brett Farve.

Metrosexual is a neologism of the 2000s generally applied to heterosexual men with a strong concern for their appearance, and/or whose lifestyles display attributes stereotypically attributed to gay men

Ozy's a great character, I could care less what his sexual orientation is.

But its an interesting spin.

I see your point, but I'm not sure I can agree. Rorshach actually isn't very clever, and when we read between the lines in the book he doesn't seem to really hold with clever. He's most antagonistic to the two most educated characters in the book and he sends his journal to a fringe newspaper, which implies he read the New Frontiersman, which implies he agrees with the New Frontiersmen, which implies he's got a complicated relationship with actual intelligence. I'll probably have to write a few paragraphs to really lay out my reasoning here, but you've given me food for thought!

I would disagree with that quite a bit. He most definately isn't book smart. That, however, doesnt translate to intelligence at all. While Rorsach may not understand quantum theory, I think he understands people better then anyone in the book. Which is a social intelligence and can lend to being clever just as much, if not MORE then book smarts.

The fact that he reads New Frontiersman isnt a display of being inept or unintelligent, it simply showcases his understanding of the world. New Frontiersman may not be the most credited of papers, but its purpose is to be unbiased and less influenced by external pressures that exist on most media. This ensures less filtering/censorship then any other source. His giving the Journal to the New Frontiersman is a "clever" way to ensure that his message will get heard. He also realizes that people are succesptable to suggestion, regardless of the source. For example, if you start telling people that your co-worker is a child molestor....doesnt matter how reliable your source...people start to wonder. And thats all you need to bring something or someone down.

He probably was gay. So what? Adds something new.

Its a joke, they added on.

I think that everyone misses the point. the insinuation that Ozy is gay means nothing really to people of today. This movie and book are set/written back in the 80's. It was a bigger implication/accusation back then, and bias based on sexual orientation was fairly acceptable.

It also speaks to the tone of the book. That super heroes had human oppinions and faults like anyone else. Many times it made reference to a particular bias of a Costumed indiviual on religion/race, sexual orientation....

To say "He's gay...so what" is a "new age" line of thought that didnt exist in the 80s. You can't look at this book/movie with an open mind, since that same open mind didnt exist when the book was written.

I don't mind the implication since it is, in a way,in the book. I just didn't care for the BOYS folder...seemed pretty adolescent for the smartest man in the world. I didn't mention it earlier because I couldn't remember if the file was in the book.
