Call me old fashion but female companionship works better :wink1:

Figures don't talk back unless you have serious issues and don't always want a cuddle after, but

Sounds like I'm not alone :D
My girl works late so she's not home when I get home at 5. The figures are a perfect substitute, just dont tell her I said that;)

If I've had a bad day, with maybe bad business relations, or bad productivity etc. Its very nice to come home to the "Shelf", maybe 5 minutes just stand there and look, maybe perfect a pose or something, its very good for the stress.

Do you guys feel the same?

yeps, that's why i have this hobby. this hobby is FUN. if this hobby is driving me stressfull nutz, then i can honestly say...its time to quit. but it doesnt, so its still on.haha

Definitely! I recently started this internship which sucks balls, and just the thought of having to do it for the next 4 months to come is terrible. But every day when I come home and look at my collection it calms me down, makes me forget all the crap, stress and boredom of the day and just gives me a better mood.

So I'd say there's definitely a theraputic factor to these things. We buy 'em because we love 'em, so in some ways I think it's natural that these things have a good effect on us :)

Agree i feel ya i do the same thing , im like a predator looking at skulls

:rotfl

I do get some stress relief from my figures, I enjoy looking at them, customizing them and changing things on them, etc. I think the key is to limit yourself on how much you own, though. Some of the collections I've seen in Show Your Shelves would really overwhelm me. I keep my collection fairly small and only focus on my most favorite characters and never try to get every release.

I also play alot of videogames and watch alot of movies, so i have to put some time & money aside for that too :rotfl

Just noticed that I have alot of stains on the floor in front of my collection from toothpaste, I have a habit of standing and look at my collection in the morning before I go to work while brushing my teeth :p

Its my hobby, so yeah, my collection does provide a certain bit of stress relief. Its that "out", a place to step into and leave the real behind. Like someone watching a movie, reading a book, playing basketball, painting or whatever it is someone does to chill out, relax and take their mind off stuff. Its my hobby, and like any other hobby, I to it for the pleasure it brings me.

If anyone isn't getting that from their collection, then you should just kill yourself because you are clearly a miserable turd.

..how my brain read it...

I occasionaly stare for 10 minutes at my statues and might even feel the textures on the hand sculpted parts. reminds me of how much labour and love was put into each piece

Ha ha, that's me you're describing, CyberVillain. I take the opportunity to stare at my collection while brushing my teeth*, too. It beats looking at my mug in the mirror.

* Only I do it with my mouth closed. :lol:wink1:

This thread is awesome. I get a ton of relief from looking at the collection. Back when I was collecting McFarlane figures, sometimes when I would have a really bad day I would even go to the local comic book shop to buy something. They were like the cliche of woman and shoes.

But like others have said, I sometimes feel like I get more stress out of it now since customs, hot toys, and sideshow statues are much much more than McFarlane! Everytime a new announcement comes out for a license I like, I get excited a first, and then stress out about how I am going to pay for it, what I need to sell to get it, or where to put it.

However, it won't stop me from continuing the hobby. In my old house there were times when I would just walk into "the room", close the door, and take it all in. A smile normally starts to form on my face at that moment.

Figure collecting is great stress release we wear or should I say admire our collections like proud badges. As a movie nut I have a piece of so many of my favorite films staring me in the face, it's so awesome ! I just have to get my priorities a lot straighter. Case in point my work shoes are worn away and I need new dress shirts yet I just dropped $160.00 for Hot Toys Spider Man and $185.00 for HT Tracker Predator a week before that. My girlfriend tired of getting me clothes, is boycotting buying me any new gear until I cut back or stop collecting. And then with the economy everyone's telling me I should be saving my money for hard times coming. So figure collecting is a great stress taker for me but it gives a little back just as well.
