I had to pay like 100$ last year, not bad, but this year I claimed 0 so I can have a pretend bonus.

I always withhold extra so that there are no unpleasant surprises at the end. Not ideal, because that is money I loan the government that I could otherwise be investing. But, I always get something back.
If you are a U.S. taxpayer, you should take care to monitor how much your employer is taking out of your check this year. There are lots of changes with the recent tax bill. In the short-term, most of us will end up paying less, but the government wanted to make changes to withholdings very quickly. As a result, there hasn't been time for employers to fully anticipate needed changes, and individuals will have to manually check their withholdings against a withholding calculator released by the feds.
