I guess it depends on what you go to Cons for. If you go for the main purpose of obtaining "common" collectibles then, yes, they have become much less fulfilling in that regard in recent years. However, if you're into getting stuff signed, meeting industry folks, obtaining rare and/or original art, participating in Q&A events, seeing some very interesting things and snagging show exclusives then there really is no better place than SDCC.

And while the Comic aspect of Comic-Con is still being phased out (they should have renamed it San Diego International Media Con years ago) it's still a good place to snap up books. Oh, and bootleg DVDs. :p

Now, if you are into the mingling and partying aspect (including lots of wild costumes, hot chicks and a Mardi Gras atmosphere) then your Con tour should begin and end with Dragon*Con. :rock

....I'm looking for something freaky and something dusty
Man... If only I would have succeded in making that screen grab of "bandanna-chick" Dusty showing off her belly button piercing last year. I would be a milionaire by now!!! At least I've seen it, and the picture is etched on my retina...

Not to be Debbie downer, but good luck with that.

It used to be that you could find rare stuff at conventions, but with the proliferation of online stores and ebay there's usually never anything special or rare at a con. Everyone has the same current release stuff and it's usually higher priced than you can get it online. Until Sunday when some great deals can be made.

..:lecture..

A convention here in Sweden tend to have some rare stuff... atleast I've seen some the times I've attended...

I remember standing last year and admireing a WitchKing Trueform... tough it was mighty expensive!
