I am thinking of getting the Aragorn PF. I have nothing that represents LOTR in my collection and would like to have something.

I see on the Aragorn PF thread that many are happy with the purchase. I am not exactly sold on the likeness. My question is How great or not so great is the likness of Viggo? I know most say it looks better in person but how do you all feel after you have had it for awhile. Do you still love it?

On a scale of 1 - 10. 1 being awful and 10 being perfect what would you say it is.

Thanks in advance.

if you are looking to pickup a representative piece, why not just get the gollum/smeagol pf? it's still on sale at below retail & is excellent.

aragorn pf is one of the better good guy pf statues, likeness is okie. But i would choose smeagol pf as a representative for lotr.

Yeah I have thought about that. I am just not sure how he would look with the way I have things set up being that he as a charater is so much smaller then the rest of my items.

I tend to like Aragorn as a character better.

Jaws, I'm a big Viggo fan and I love my Aragorn PF. I would say it's the 2nd best likeness out there with the SS Aragorn statue being first.

JAWS, if the paint-apps were as good as the proto, I'd give him a 9+. The proto had a fantastic look, very Viggo, part determined, part sympathetic, as though he had just spoken to Frodo at Amon Hen, and then turned around and sliced an Orc head off! :yess:

Now, with the paint-apps from the factory, he's a little more 'tanned' and appears a bit 'angrier', eyes a little more menacing/yellowed. Also, the fantastic Viggo likeness gets lost a bit in these apps. With the factory apps, I give it a 6.5.

If you split the difference, it falls in at about a 7.5 - 7.75. It is a FANTASTIC PF overall. The outfit and tailoring is topnotch. The pose is dynamic, and even with the apps, he's still one of my faves. Not GTG or Gollum good, but close, and worth getting IMO. :wink1:

My only two nit-picks with the Aragorn PF were the yellowish eyes which unless you're a couple inches from him weren't a big deal. The main issue for me was the thick clumpy looking hair - I just think it could have been done better. Other than that it is a very good piece.

Oh man, if you want the Aragorn PF then get the Aragorn PF. I've had my exclusive only for a few months and he is incredible. I really don't have any nitpicks at all, he's really an amazing piece :clap

10/10!

Totally agree.

I had the Aragorn PF for about a year and ended up selling it in favor of the Gandalf the Grey PF to serve as the LOTR representation in my collection. I am very happy with my decision. The Aragorn piece is very nice, especially the outfit which is very well done, but the likeness is not as good as what was shown on the initial prototype. Gandalf, on the other hand, is completely spot-on in terms of likeness, and the piece has a great presence about it. You really can't go wrong with either one, just wanted to share my thoughts. Good luck with whichever piece you choose.

I agree, if you can only get one piece, the best character would be Gandalf the Grey. EX also looks great.

The best are Lurtz and Berserker though. Incredible pieces and baddies. :)

Yes I have thought about Gandalf the Grey but as a character, while I like him, he is not my fav. I may just skip the LotR represenative. I just don't know. My collection is things that I loved as a child that have held up to my adulthood. While I love the LOTR films I did not love them in my youth and thus don't have that "Special" meaning the other films or comics. After all is said and done and I get the pieces I want there will be one empty spot. LotR just happens to be the closest modern film to what I would have loved as a child.

Agreed, LOTR really was the closest thing to the classic movies of the late 70s and 80s. Great characters, settings, and most important - a great and memorable score! Something most movies don't have these days.

If I could only have one LOTR piece, it would be the recently announced RWOS. Love it. I will never forget the intensity of seeing Fellowship and the Ringwraiths chasing them. Classic.

Agree with everything here, likeness is not 100% but any movie fan would have no problem in telling who it's meant to be. My only gripe with this piece is that the sword isn't metal would have been a nice touch.

We may not agree on the EX or Reg R2 and 3PO but we agree on almost everything else.

You are not kidding about great film scores. Other then the Ring films, it has been a long time since I bought a soundtrack. Well I did buy the PT Star Wars and Last Indy film but that was more the completist in me then thinking the scores were all that great.

John Williams has lost his touch, Jerry Goldsmith is gone and nobody except James Newton Howard has really picked up the slack.

I think I am leaning towards a Gollum.

Gollum! NO! Too annoying! Get Aragorn over him. :)

Recent scores I did enjoy were Iron Man (original) and Batman Begins. LOTR is much more grand though.
Yes, Williams lost his touch for sure but so have most Hollywood films. :) The prequels music was seriously lacking, except for Episode 1 - good score with Duel of the Fates being top notch!

HA! We needs it. We have to haves it.... Actually the one of him looking up at the ring is from my fav shot in the whole film. Just a great moment with great music.

PS - I ment Howard Shore and not James Newton Howard as far as modern composers go. But JNH has had some good ST.

I thought both Batman films had good scores but better for the film and not as much as listening to them on their own.

Unlike the good ol days with Star Wars, Conan, Last of the Mohicans, Poltergeist, Indy films, Superman, First Blood, Star Trek II, etc...

And Yes Duel of the Fates is Epic!!! Actually the TPM has the best ST of the PT. I am also one of the few who likes that one better then the other two in the PT. I guess it's because there were still using real sets and everything was not a green screen. It feels the most like the OT because of this I think. Also love the Light saber duel.

Yes, TPM was the only prequel I enjoyed. Easily better than the other prequels and the only one that actually felt like Star Wars IMO, despite having Jar Jar and other BS.

All the scores you listed above are classics.

Yes Gruson and JAWS agree on TPM!! It must be accepted as fact!!!:hi5:

JAWS - i give my Aragorn PF a 9/10. it looks alot like Viggo, i just think he needs a bit more facial hair
ie: the beard and his eyes are a bit pale, i'd like the blue to be deeper.

edit: here's some photo's of my Aragorn PF :wink1:
