Do you mean in that picture, or in the movie? In the movie I think it's some sort of pan used for gold-digging.

On another note, Sam's Club's website has the TSC Rex for only 39.81, and it's in stock, ready to ship, so if you've been holding out on that one now's the time to jump on it, because these prices can change quickly, and this is a steal for Rex.

This guy on pixar planet easily has the best collection your'll ever see, thought I'd pass it along here.

It consists of both official and custom pieces.

That is excellent!

However, I would NOT want to dust that guys collectibles room. :horror

I did thanks bud, but not sure if that is the new collection one. Same pic and price as the play.com one and that def is not it.

Seems a bit cheap too. Thoughts?

Well that's where I got my Woody from mate. I paid the same price instore as the online price. As I remember buzz was the exact same price in store as well. They all seem to be in line with each other and from the same set. I'd probabaly say i'm 99% sure that's Jessie!

by changing the expressions and adding electronics to make them "alive"... I'd want a little poseability.

Buzz has way more articulation than he usually does. while sure, his arms not going down further bothers me quite a bit, they still gave him
rubber waist. a first.
ratchet joints in the legs to move the shins outward, also a first I think.
his head can be turned side to side, not sure if that's a first, but my 90s buzz doesn't do this.
separated fingers. Fingers. when have they ever given us this much articulation?

I see this toys as alive but still on model. the Mr p's legs do annoy me, but their not too difficult to remove yourself. he does have fused eyes, but at least they gave us separate eye sockets, so making our eyes is possible.

Rex's jaw, I'm not going to lie, that is inexcusable.

But I don't think their not pleasing anyone. these are the most accurate toy story toys produced, even with their quirks. I'll take what I can get.

Oh for sure, no complaints on Buzz. Well... i WOULD like to be able to drop his arms straight down like you say but overall, he's a solid A+.

For the other toys to not be as accurate as Buzz and to cost the same amount... I dunno. Doesn't feel right.

Well there is a rumor that an accurate and cheaper Mr and Mrs Potatohead are coming out in the fall, using the same model data as the TSC version, but no electronics. so you might want to hold off until then for those. dont expect separate eyes, but the leg issue should be gone, and it should get its butt compartment back.

I'd actually rate Buzz a solid A-. The lack of screen-accurate shoulder articulation, the lack of screen-accurate wrist articulation (which I realize could have been impossible to achieve), the slightly less than ideal wingspan, and the lack of some screen-heard sound clips make him less than perfect for me. He is still MILES beyond anything else we've ever had though, so I consider these things to be very minor complaints.

You're right. A- is appropriate. Where would the other toys fall in your grade scale?

That sounds really good. I might just wait for those, I was never comfortable with his legs anyway. I'll probably get Lotso first, I'm also getting Chunk of Amazon.

And also about the articulation issue, Buzz's wrists should be able to bend up and down. Because if you look closely, when he fires his laser, he shoots his own hand of! I still think Bullseye should have an internal skeletal system. Mr.Potato Head should also have bendable arms and his seperate eyes, and the roundup gang should have seperate fingers, with just a bit more stuffing.

Here's my pics of JESSIE. Some inaccuracies here too unfortunately. What good is the Pixar data if you're not staying true to it??

Super hard to pose because she's a rag doll... but... rubber bands do help.

The picture is definitely not the TSC Jessie, but the description is for the TSC version. I have no idea whether it is the picture or description that is wrong, however.

Which is why I am cautious. :)

Hmm, good to know. Thanks bud. :rock

Great pics coheteboy!

You're right. A- is appropriate. Where would the other toys fall in your grade scale?

Good question. I haven't given them a lot of thought until now as far as grading, but here are my initial thoughts.

Woody - A

I know there has been a lot of discussion about the open vs closed mouth on Woody, I actually don't consider the open mouth a detriment. In fact, I would almost consider the film representation more unrealistic. I mean, given the Woody's Roundup mythos, I would expect that the Woody doll in the story would have an expression more like the drawn image on the TSC box, which is just about what we got in this version. Other minor nitpicks, such as the belt buckle color, the too-large pull ring, and the vest not fitting quite right are the only other physical flaws I can think of. Of course, it is a pretty big flaw to not include all of the "toy mode" phrases, but not enough to knock it down to an A-.

Aliens - B+

I love the aliens, and I think that aside from some QC issues, the design is practically perfect. Unfortunately, their primary reason for existing, namely as squeak toys, is completely missing, thanks to the lack of a squeaker. That alone knocks down what would otherwise have been an A+ for me.

Rex - A-

Great sculpt, perfect size, fantastic phrases (Wallace Shawn rocks!), this one hits on almost every cylinder fro me, that is until you try to open his mouth. NO FREAKING JAW ARTICULATION??? Come on, Thinkway! Even the "Roaring Rex" pre-school version has a mouth that opens!

RC - B+/A-

I love just about everything about this RC, except for the fact that it is lacking any real RC features. Yes, I understand their desire to emulate the "live mode" behavior of RC, but still, he's supposed to be an RC car. If I had to choose between live mode and RC (toy) mode on this one, I'd pick RC mode. But in every other way this one is amazingly close to being screen accurate. If only the tires had the "Goodtire Mud Eater" embossing.

Bucket o' Soldiers - A

These guys look awesome to me, and they are so close to their screen counterparts that the differences are negligible. The only reason I didn't give them an A+ is the question about the accuracy of the bucket size (which I'm still not 100% convinced about).

Potato Head - A-

While I completely understand the requirements to make toys idiot-proof (oops, sorry, "child safe") these days, you would think that they could have offered two variations on this toy without incurring much - if any - added production costs. One version could have all of the features to keep children "safe", while the other could have given us separate eyes and screen accurate legs. Thinking about it, the only differences in the design would need to be a different leg assembly that fits in the same bottom slot - preferably one that offered removable feet.

Lotso - A-

It's really hard to grade a toy that we have seen so little of, but just based on what we know, this is a pretty solid representation of the character. Is it poseable? No, but I really wouldn't expect it to be. But the soft sculpt and fur are perfect, and the electronics are very well done. But why is it not to scale?? It should be at least two inches taller, maybe even three.

Jessie - ?

I've going to wait to decide on Jessie until I can find one that has satisfactory QC.

So, those are my grades, at least so far. I might change my mind over time ;). How do these grades compare with yours?

As toys... ALL of them get solid A's. But as Toy Story Collection toys, I'm going to have to be a little more critical. Here are my reviews.

25-1.jpg

Buzz Lightyear - A
Yup, we talked about the A- earlier but I recall thinking the original Buzz was an A- toy. This has been improved INCREDIBLY. From extra articulation, to better likeness, to pop-up wings AND LIGHTS, to having Tim Allen's voice (even if it is updated). And for the packaging to be similar to the movie, even with the wings to attach, this really was a knock out winner from the start. And for $50.. to get all that articulation, likeness, packaging... it was awesome. This is the "toy story collection" that I compared everything else to.

IMG_2296.jpg

Woody - A-
We already know about the wrong voice so that's an issue. And if they're going for rag doll, they succeeded. The biggest issue of course is the facial expression. And if they didn't make such a big deal about these being the EXACT toys that Andy would have, I wouldn't make it such an issue. The new expression at least looks very accurate to the character. Me personally, I'd want a rag doll to have the dead expression, and if the toy had a smile, then I'd want it to be able to stand on its own.

IMG_1384.jpg

Aliens - B+
$30 for stationary plastic figures without articulation is tough to swallow. Add insult to injury, they don't squeak. Aside from these issues, they look great and are among my favorite of the series.

IMG_1927.jpg

Bucket O Soldiers - A
The first version of these soldiers gets a C+ and I'm still a bit bitter that I got suckered into buying two of these things because of their screw up. The updated version though is brilliant. $12.99 (at the time) for movie accurate toy soldiers. The bucket IS indeed a bit on the short side but that really doesn't bother me too much. These are what I expected from this collection: movie accurate toys.

09-1.jpg

RC - A
Though it's the most expensive ToyStoryCollection toy I've purchased to date, it's still something that completely falls in line with what they set out to do: movie-accurate toys. It has a movie-accurate remote control and even makes the same sounds. The operation of this guy is a bit tricky but I really like it.

11-3.jpg

Rex - B-
God-Spilla is the first major disappointment for me in this collection. Most important factor is the jaw. All pictures showed that there was definitely an articulated jaw there! And then throw in the odd electronics involving his removable tail which skyrocketted this one up to $65 when i purchased it... just wasn't thrilled with the results. Packaging was also disappointing, unlike the Japanese release that came in a large "crate" box. Kudos for getting Wallace Shawn's voice.

MrPotatoHead_14.jpg

Mr. Potato Head - C+
$50 for a talk Potato Head. Does that sound right to any of you? Butt filled with batteries. Parts that don't go everywhere. Super long legs and non-removable feet. Eyes that are stuck together. Non-poseable arms. This is just disappointment after disappointment. And remember getting this one out of the box? You had to unscrew his bottom just to unplug the store "try me" wire. Ridiculous. Kudos for getting Don Rickles' voice.

IMG_6139.jpg

Lotso - B
He smells like strawberries, he talks and likes hugs... it's a nice looking plush but again I ask... $50? For that much, he SHOULD be able to stand. Why not make him a poseable and huggable toy as well? They sell standard plush toys at the Disney store. Why couldn't this be the ultimate displayable Lotso? And no cane.

IMG_6137.jpg

Jessie - B-
Hair's too short. Face doesn't look right. There's a HUGE "do not remove this tag" on her butt. Voice is completely wrong.

That's pretty much all I have to say. Buzz Lightyear spoiled me rotten. He showed us that you can get a lot of bang out of your toy for $50. Each release after in that range was never as good or accurate as Buzz.

Jessie looks worse in each pic I see. The back of her head is terrible :lol
