The reason this movie is at #3 at the box office this past weekend is simple... there are only two movies worth watching right now. #1 Lone Survivor. #2 Frozen. The other movies competing have already been released so interest is slowly dwindling down for those.

This was the opening weekend for Legend of Hercules. Now that word is out, I expect it to fall significantly within the following weeks.

That said, the big winner is:

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Gross= $413,775,859 in 8 weeks. Budget= ~$130M.

Runner up:

Frozen. Gross= $317,319,106 in 8 weeks. Budget= ~$150M.

Ouch!:

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Gross= $242,226,788 in 5 weeks. Budget= ~$225M.

That actually surprises the **** out of me. I would've expected it to have made considerably more by now. :(

Too many people watching Frozen...for the second or third time. :lol

Its kicking *** in the foreign theatres though.

Its probably going to end up around 260 million US and 950-960 million WW. Its not as much as I had hoped but still solid numbers.

*waits for Josh's absolute rebuttal* :lol

Not to be rude by I don't give a thought to EF on anything. So his opinion good or bad doesn't mean much to me.

Agreed. I was surprised as well by those numbers.
But I'm sure, after all the merchandise, licensing for toys/figures, Extended edition, Extended 3D edition, My Precious Super Freshest edition, etc, it will make significantly more.

No way the Hobbit's budget was that much. They went in with a budget to make 2 films and milked out 3. They are doing quite well for themselves. That might be the budget for 'both' movies there, not just a single one. They are making bank on it for sure despite the lackluster performance at the box office.
