Hate when this happens.

A decent thread that mostly has good comversations has some fools in an arguement get the damn thing locked and then no more discussion :(

I remember the 'thinking about quitting this hobby' thread which had members go over why they collect, what the like, what they no longer collect, the reasons they cut back or stop, discussion over price increase and so on. It was insightful and then got locked.

And i noticed this evening the 'you can't make this **** up' thread which was always great for outrageous news stories from around the world and other unbeliable stories that happened and got people chatting, has been locked over a squabble.

Annoying to anyone else?

extremely annoying, I understand mods have to stop fights and control the board, yeah i am all for that, it is good that things don't get out of control,

but it is really annoying because the subject of that thread was really good, and it was open for all kinds of news and opinions,
I hate that because of some off topic arguments the whole thing gets shut down,
where will I post the weird news I find now? :monkey2

Like I said in the Dr Phil thread... just create another thread.

But speaking about that first thread you mentioned Nova, the ****** who got that one locked was making a habit of derailing threads with his sanctimonious bs, and I'm glad he appears to have buggered the hell off from this board :yess:

don't you get in trouble for opening similar threads that have been closed? I recall that happening before, a thread with a similar subject will open and it will get closed right after because of that :dunno

I'd guess that it'd be up to the discretion of the mods re: the potential for the same kind of discussion to recur in a new similar thread... but what got the 'can't make this up' thread closed was a flare up that had nothing to do with the thread topic per se and everything to do with a couple of members who got a bit heated at the time.

Sometimes threads get restored after a cooling off period. Maybe you could pm Jen and see if this is a possibility.

When threads (especially those in the sandbox) have to be continually cleaned up due to inappropriate posts, either photos/gifs that really have no business here or discussions that turn to insults, threats, offensive posts, religion and/or politics it gets to a point where enough is enough. Most of the members involved, have been members here for long enough to know when they are crossing the line...but they choose to continue with it. It is annoying, I agree. But if people can't reign themselves in or leave a thread before things get out of hand then this type of thing is bound to happen. Rather than people contributing to a thread's derailment, it would be beneficial to all (and the thread's survival) if some can learn to let things go and move on to a different topic.

I can easily see this thread being thrown into the sandbox -- and then locked. It's only a matter of time, as usual.

That particular thread would need more cleaning up before it could be opened up again. May be easier to just start a new one....which I have no problem with if people can keep things in line. There is some leeway in the Sandbox - but people posting news that has to do with religion or politics usually ends up a big stinking mess. It's not quite as "respectful" since most of the news in that thread are sort of WTH kind of stories and when they have to do with religion or politics tend to get way more out of hand than normal.

There y'go Blackmask, sounds like you've got the ok to create a similar thread. And hope for the best :lol

Hey, my thread went to the sandbox... dammit!

Damn people messing with my junk. You read what I typed. :panic:

ewww That's gross!

Wait, wha?! Look over there, batty is picking his nose!

yeah I understand, I understand is a problem for threads to go out of hand, just sucks because that was a funny thread

I don't think I will lol, I can see it getting closed just because I made it :lol

Yep, it sucks...
Unfortunately it's due to the "usual suspects"... a handful in particular that love to stir the pot in order to get some attention. These characters feel the need to promote their "online persona"...
Sometimes it's better to just ignore them... :dunno

Nothing is funnier than mods who take modding a message board as serious business :lol
