Been meaning to get back to some of y’all! I’ll just make an update post and touch on some of the comments.
I am real happy I got this. No regrets. Game of Thrones is my favorite TV show of all time and I love Daenerys (fav character) and Drogon.
I ended up paying $1,200 (-$100 discount from the listing price) and drove 35 minutes both ways to retrieve it. Driving it back was a bit stressful without a box.
Once I set it up on my desk, I was blown away. I am pleasantly impressed with it, the paint apps, the textures, the build quality and of course, the sheer size and presence. The ONLY real gripe I have is how his right foot is angled outwards and isn’t super flat footed, but I think they designed it that way because it’s meant to sit on an uneven surface. Whilst on the platform base, it’s not noticeable. I even placed a goat skull underneath its foot like he’s stepping on it. Not only that, but I watched a couple reviews where people mentioned how glossy it is on the head. I echo those sentiments but not to the same degree. I don’t think it’s that glossy.
As for a dedicated display case… I don’t have one. As of right now, I have 2 IKEA DETOLFs that are jam packed with my 35 1/6 figures
and my LEGO UCS sets are displayed in a large and outdated shelving unit lol, which means I have nowhere to put Drogon besides placing him on my working desk which I hardly use anymore. For the time being, it’ll live there and I’ll dust him once a week. I don’t think it should be that big of a problem. Maybe the desk being right by the window where it gets hit with direct sunlight will be a problem?
I plan on moving/settling into a new place in the new future and then I’ll upgrade my collection display. Ideally, I’d love to have Moducases, but it’s way too early for me to know how I’ll be displaying all these things. That being said, I still opted to get him cause I’d been wanting this piece for a while now, and I couldn’t pass it up at the price I paid and local pickup without having to pay for $200+ shipping. Not having a box poses logistical challenges but not the end of the world for me. It’s actually pretty sturdy and when I move, I’ll have someone either drive as I hold it steady or vice versa.
I also didn’t realize how rare this is within the community, virtually no one has it aside from a few people and most notably, Will (WillFoxification on YouTube), and I’ve had several people tell me they didn’t even know this existed!
Now I patiently await INART to do Game of Thrones figures and I selfishly hope they make the blue dress look for Daenerys. Threezero Drogon’s size is more reminiscent of its S5x09 appearance when he saves Daenerys from the fighting pits, but it somewhat still works with its early S4 appearance and size when Daenerys was hanging out with her dragons when feasting.
But whichever way INART decides to go, Drogon can still be a standalone piece and effectively have a spot in the collection.
I’m beyond stoked and happy I got this beast. It’s badass!
Oh, and for a quick size comparison. Here’s Drogon with Cap.
