Thunder Toys 1/6 Hell Ranger A / B / C (Sam Elliott Western Ghost Rider)

I like him a lot.

He's exactly as I hoped he'd be.

I added the belt and the holster I made for him.

I got one fuzzy shot of the winter crew, before the battery died.

I tried the hands on the HT Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider, but it wasn't easy to get them to work because the flames have to go outside the jacket sleeves, rather than under them as designed for the Thunder coat.

So I raided my spare parts and put together a version of an old west Ghost Rider instead.

Also gave the shotgun the quickest of paints just to kill the solid metal nature of it.

Received the horse a couple weeks ago, and the Ranger a few days ago (had to find batteries to light up his head). Overall, it's okay. The hands and hat on the Ranger don't light up, and the hooves on the horse don't either (the flanks barely light up), but the head and chest do; in fact, the chest on the horse has to be one of the coolest features as the flame effect under the acrylic chest wavers much the same as an electric fireplace. The body on the Ranger is fairly stiff -- though that could be from the clothes, but it does seem to have somewhat of a ratchet system in the joints. The "Sam Elliott" head isn't great, but as a generic old guy it works pretty good. The horse's power supply plugs directly into what would be the horse's butthole (no seriously); someone at Thunder Toys clearly has a pretty juvenile sense of humor for that one.

Great photos! Just got mine set up.....question does the Leds in the head of the Rider stay on for you? They only stay on a few seconds on mine and then go out but come back on if you move the head I am wondering if it's like that on all of them.

It was like that on mine, as well. In fact, I’d often have to readjust the batteries in the head and push down fairly hard on the hat to get them to come on at all. Sort of a pain in the ***, but I only needed them to be on long enough to take the pics.

I prefer the Sam Elliott 'Caretaker' look, but it looks like you can't get him without getting the full set with the horse.

With his spade, and without the leather coat he looks like an old prospector type.

It wouldn't be hard to make another Phantom Rider/Ghost Rider from parts to make use of the flaming head, hands and coat.

Yes I concur with your view the battery set up is poor. My interest is the Caretaker Sculpt, under shirt and that shovel, we all need the latter at some point.

My spare parts western Ghost Rider was naff, and didn't last long.

I've made several attempts since trying to put the flaming sculpt and hands to better use, but nothing looked right.


After putting together a comic inspired Jonah Hex my mind turned back to the western Ghost Rider. The main criteria was that he needed to be tall, darkly clad and with a long leather coat.

This is today's attempt from spare parts on a CooModel Extra Tall body:

I weathered everything with Games Workshop's graveyard Earth to make him look dusty from the desert, and to tone down the shine of leather, which doesn't show up too well on the coat with the camera flash.

The coat was from a mystery no name bootleg Hot Toys Blade II figure that came out years ago, which has been sitting in a drawer unused until now. I wouldn't have chosen a coat with red lining, but after putting it on him the flashes of colour seemed appropriate.
