Never heard of the film until now but according to IMDB it held the box office record in France until Titanic in 1997.

Looking through the cast list, a particular character rang a bell: Major Achbach.

Having watched it yesterday, it's apparent that DID paid more attention to the film. Tiger Toys likely recast DID's sculpts, and then cobbled together a half-hearted approximation of the outfits.

e.g., their painter is wearing pyjamas and slippers; the one in the oversized helmet should also be wearing a massively oversized uniform, while the other's helmet was so small it was popped up on top of his head. (The film was silly Laurel and Hardy style slapstick, with barely any regard for reality/history).

While I'm not getting them, watching the film prompted me to get DID's Major Achbach sculpt and uniform.

It looks that way, apart from them cutting some corners by re-using the pyjama and slippers for the painter.


Meanwhile the parts to build DID's Major Achach arrived.

For a 2014 figure he stands up in quality against current DID releases. In fact the worst parts on him are the boots from their recent Stauffenberg figure. The original Achbach parts are the sculpt, cap, tunic, shirt, breeches, insignia and medals.

As an overweight character the uniform is suitably oversized, but the fat suit wasn't included so I've padded him out. I started off with the gut padding from Mars' '66 Softball Joker, then realized it needed a lot more! I wrapped him with cottonwool wadding, then pushed some extra pieces up under his tunic afterwards for good measure.

EDIT:
