If only I didn’t hate the designs. The NECA movie turtles are just too big for my displays too, and the DreamEx ones are long gone and overpriced now.

I’m sure some collector will love these though.

A re-release is a possibility.
Say what you want about the design, but those figures' prices are now very very high on the aftermarket!

Regardless of your opinions for the Bayturtles design (I hate it too btw!), I'm gonna give credit where it's due-- the figures themselves are absolutely fantastic and are a centerpiece in person. Again, coming from someone who HATES the movies and design (they look like 7 foot goblin extras from Labyrinth!) I'd say the ThreeZero figures are definitely worth getting if you could find them for a good price. I have them and the DreamEx, but as far as I'm aware you'd have a better chance of starring in the next Michael Bay movie than finding the whole set nowadays.

Now I feel dirty praising something from those movies!

Ugh! They couldn’t do the 90s turtles in 1/6th scale? Or any other rendition. They look very nice but those designs are the ugliest turtle designs I’ve ever seen in media. Human turtle shrek hulks. I can’t believe at one point in time I actually tried to like those movies.

I hate when they try to “fix” the designs. Less is more and the turtle designs are fine the way they are. Poor Donnie. They absolutely destroyed him. Just because someone is smart doesn’t mean they wear iPads and tech all over there body. And why the damn glasses .

Even the DreamEx aren’t perfect, but they’re the best middle ground I saw. Really bummed they’re so hard to find and the price is so jacked up. At this point, I might even settle for just finding Leo.

But you’d think with all their popularity, SOMEONE would do more 1/6 Turtles of versions most people like.

I think as a few people working in the industry has pointed out, even the rightholders and toymakers are still constantly baffled on by why adults would actually buy these and like Transformers, He-Man, Ghostbusters etc these are franchises primarily targeted to children. The rights holders and the companies they mainly license to (Hasbro, Mattel, Playmates etc) are doing well enough to just stick to that demographic.

The adults that are buying TMNT, Transformers and Ghostbusters are those who grew up watching these characters. Now that they're adults, they have the money to buy the toys, like a revenge act, because they couldn't afford to buy everything they want when they are still a lil kid. Me included!

That is less and less the case with each passing year for a while now. These companies know adults are the ones buying toys for nostalgia and any that don’t are completely out of touch.

Kids just don’t gravitate towards toys in the same numbers. They want smart devices, video games, and to make reckless in-app purchases with family credit cards.

There’s a reason why LEGO‘s new corporate slogan they’re pushing is “Adults Welcome.” All these toys in vintage style packaging aren’t being made to appeal to kids with no attachment to them. Retro re-releases of figures from decades ago certainly aren’t aimed at them either.

Like @batsheva said, it’s adults that are interested in those legacy franchises and their associated toy lines. Some kids are interested in them as well, but it’s the people that actually grew up with them who are ready and willing to open their wallets to regain, reclaim, or redo a part of their childhood.

Do licensors and the various brands and manufacturers still make missteps and miscalculations? Absolutely. But most know full well it’s very lucrative now to chase the big kid dollars rather than just children and parents.
