So what would you all consider to be the best remake ever?

John Carpenter's The Thing. One of the best horror films of all time, and while it's respected, I don't think it gets the praise it truly deserves. It's the only remake I can think of that not only surpasses the original, but renders the original obsolete.

Just don't say "Gone in 60 Seconds" and you'll be fine!

I would expect "The Thing" to get at least a few votes.

The problem with a discussion about bad remakes is that bad remakes are so often completely forgettable. Remember "The Manchurian Candidate" with Denzel Washington? Didn't think so...

Then there's "Charade" remade as "The Truth About Charlie." Mark Wahlberg needs to avoid remakes.

Or the remake of "The Poseidon Adventure." Or "The Ladykillers."

"Manhunter" remade as "Red Dragon" was so-so, and better than I expected in the hands of Ratner.

But I did actually enjoy the "Italian Job" remake. And PJ's "King Kong," while it certainly didn't surpass the original, was worth watching.

Definitely John Carpenter's The Thing. It wasn't my childhood getting raped it was my father's. Wait... that would mean I'm a... Nooooooo!!!!!!!

Yeah, The Thing is a really good remake. Based on the original, but taken in a different direction.

I don't understand the arrogance to think they can make an often great movie, better. Hollywood is full of movies with a good premise but poor execution. Why not take a poorly made film with a good idea and make it better?

Nooooo...

Lets make Francis Ford Coppola's, Anne Rice's, Bram Stoker's Dracula.

Whats everyone's take on War of the Worlds? I liked it, it was a bit of a departure from the original, but it was good.

I read somewhere that a remake of Ferris Bueller's Day Off was in the works.

It wouldn't surprise me if some exec thought it'd be a money-maker. Just put some young ********* in the roll hype it constantly on MTV and rake in the dough :lol

Loved it. And the ending that everyone slams is actually more line tone-wise with the original book than any of the previous films.
