Watching this guy's videos I have to admit the lighting is pretty darn impressive on the model with the different options and touch sensors. I had no idea it was going to be that interactive.

Just a shame about the ugly screw plugs and stand.

The fact it's die cast to me is like the fact that the saucer separates - nice to have, but not at the detriment of how it looks. We don't need either really, and the money that went into those features could have been used to find a way to hide those plugs better. How it looks on the shelf is more important to me.

It does look nice from a distance though, if you can get over the base

This kind of sounds like the argument that is had in a lot of statue forums. Should they be made out of a heavy stone like material such as polystone / resins or should they be made completely out of hollow vinyl.

Most in the statue forums would prefer the heavier material, including me, even though once it's on display it's not like we pick it up much.

The biggest arguments in favour of vinyl is that it won't be as fragile, and will be cheaper to ship, and in today's market shipping is a major consideration. But even so, polystone is still the preferred material, and I believe one of the only successful lines made out of lighter materials from the major licenced manufacturers, are Jurassic Park statues. Funny enough, only because no one wants seamlines on their dinosaurs.

Is there an existing third party product that could continuously power the enterprise given the battery configuration as seen in these screen grabs from the Trevor Gibbs unboxing slideshow on youtube?

If you don’t want to solder a power lead from a 6v power supply (4 x 1.5v) to each battery compartment (2 total) you could try to use a couple of dummy battery sets like this from Amazon:

There is also a guy on Facebook (Fusion Reactors) that I’ve used for my 1/6 scale figures - he makes custom leads with dummy button batteries.

I’m considering the solder approach for mine - I want to use a smart outlet to have the lights come on with all of my other stuff where I’ve done this “mod”.

The issue, of course, is what to do with the power lead on the outside of the ship. Maybe those plug holes will actually help me out here if I can open up the ship without ruining the paint. Then I can drill a small hole and run a single line in that will run in parallel with one of the lines I will be suspending from the ceiling. If you look at old Smithsonian pics from the 70s you can get an idea of how they did it.

The other issue depending on your intent - is whether this ship’s lighting will remember its state and survive a power cycle. Otherwise they will just turn off and stay off until you press the touch sensors. I solved that problem with the Delorean (you can see how in the mods thread) but that was because I could open it up and put a relay in there.

If you just want to avoid replacing batteries then that won’t be a problem. For me, that alone wouldn’t be worth the bother.

Can one of the guys from Australia chime in on whether or not the lights maintain their last state if you remove/replace the battery lid?

I'm content on just replacing batteries. I'm not gonna use this as a nightlight. It will probably just be turned on for short periods when Im watching TV .. preferably star trek...lol

I wanted the die-cast because I did not want the nacelles to droop in time. I remember I used to have refit I put together and it started to slowly buckle in the heat. The seam lines and plug holes reveal was just so disappointing to me, not just because of a broken promise, because it seems like they never even tried or it was more of a cost-cutting measure. It's not like they went and smoothed out the seams and plugs and hair-line cracks started to appear; they are just blatantly there.

Btw, after an e-mail last night, they sent me a confirmation shipping on one of my orders, supposed to arrive by saturday.

I actually don't know if it really is a better value than the Playmobil Enterprise, though they are different things altogether I suppose.

Well Playmobil went on clearance at some point in some places. This probably won't since it was crowdfund and all. It's not a horrible final product, not amazing either. All in all, I'm pretty ok with the loss and not in any hurry to pick it up if at all.

It’s an amazing product at an amazing value! For 600 bucks it’s unbelievable. The paint job and details are off the charts. I love mine! Yes the stand could be improved but its not that bad once you remove the saucer stand! Screw hole covers are negligible and the saucer as well. Plus you can display it without the saucer support!

Once lit it screams quality. You can’t beat it for the price. Plus all die cast gives it that extra kick that plastic models can’t compare with. The shuttle bay and the bridge details are awesome!

Side by Side with my polars lights, both lit up, the TOMY really shines! Literally! I still love my Polar Lights but it can’t compare to the Tomy.

Would love to see someone do a comparison to the MR Enterprise that came out years ago!

My post from 2022 saying it would be a steal at 600 was dependent on it turning out like the proto. And, it mostly did, but the screw holes shouldn't have been there. They need to fix that on their next ones, or show us how it will look when it goes up for order instead of showing one thing and delivering another

Granted they screwed up. But they owned up to it by admitting their mistakes and offering refunds. Many took the refunds though we’ll never know the exact percentages.

But IMO the mishaps were overblown. The screw holes are there as are the seams but they don’t detract from the model. The overall build, the details, paint, being diecast and the electronics really overcome the aforementioned shortcomings.

MY BIG GRIPE…are the batteries. This should have been powered by a power supply. But I knew that going in. So that’s on me.

But overall I love mine! : )

The stand isn't *that* big a deal but the ricketyish-ness is imo. Especially with all that heavy diecast. You could lose a foot

Hope they take notes about the screw holes and stand before offering up a potential TMP/TWOK refit version. That’s the Trek I grew up with and the version I’m most interested in. (Wouldn’t be able to say no to a matching Reliant too!)

This exactly. Enterprise from Wrath of Khan and a Reliant would be insta-purchases for many collectors.
