HI guys!

I received my IM Mark 1 Maquette yesterday and I love everything about it, except the paint job on the eyes. At first I thought about repainting his whole face, but thenI thought that if I only did his eyes first that might do the trick...

Well, I was right. Redoing the eyes was all I needed to make it a lot better... I also used dark brown/black pastel to darken a bit around his beard and hair for more depth so there is not a big transition in color. I also repainted some of the hair that had skin color on it.....but the eyes made all the difference.

Sorry about the crappy photos but that gives you an idea.....

looks great!! Did u repaint both eyes or just one?

I did both. I first took some of the paint off with acetone, but it was hard. I actually did the black of the eyes a bit bigger at fist then i had to go back and make them a bit smaller. I know the photos are not as good as they should be but I can tell you guys it made a world of difference...

Thanks

On the photo that I had as reference, it was sooo different so I decided to do it as close as possible....

Here is mine repainted, RDJ and the maquette before repainting it.....

very nice job!!with what did you repaint it??

I used acrylics and water based pastels. For the white of the eyes I used white mixed with a little payne's grey and raw sienna. Remember that the white of the eyes is not white, but a greyish color....

I also did the red on his lower lid with red oxide and then used a dark brown for to resemble eyelashes under the red oxide and under his upper lid.

Then I sealed it with dull coat and did a wash with red oxide for the blood shot effect. I sealed it again and placed the iris with black, added light brown to the black leaving a bit of a rim around it, added a couple of lighter browns to it and finally put the pupil in the center with black.....

When finished, I coated the eyes with clear to make it shiny...

Hope this helps....

very well..i think that i understood..it's a difficult task though..thanks for the info!!

Figures. Leave it up to Sideshow to jack up a perfectly good head sculpt with a piss poor paint job. Personally, I'd like to see someone take on repainting the whole damn thing. A damn shame when a $170 action figures blows a $400 statue out of the water in terms of paint apps.

WOW....that looks fantastic......100% improvement.
Sure is great to have talent.

Yeah, I thought about repainting the whole thing, but It isn't that bad and the only thing that really stood out was the lazy eye. Considering how good the likeness was done by Trevor, I wanted to make sure the paint job was worthy the sculpture.

Thanks for all the positive comments.

Cheers
