I tried to get better photos of the sculpt. This is with the flash on:

I like it as a sculpt, because it's unusual even if it's not Krysten Ritter.

It has a bit of attitude, like those Vietnam War girls from Ace:

But if this is the way these companies are going to treat us, then it's no wonder they use so many company names and keep inventing new ones. I've become a lot warier recently and have been ignoring figures that I'd have likely pre-ordered in the past. And this figure really bears out that suspicion.

Yeeeeah, I'm not seeing even a hint of a likeness there.

And agreed. I guess I got a bit too complacent after seeing the high quality of a lot of third party figures recently, and thought these companies were really trying to step up their game, but clearly that only applies to a small few and we still need to be cautious.

Especially when it comes to any female figure! Lol

VTS/DAM seemed to start a trend for smaller female bodies with their Furiosa and Nachshol girls. A lot of other companies rely on POP Toys' Xing bodies because they're cheap and effective, but they're also very small. So everything is scaled to the body rather than the subject matter.

Until there's a cheap, readily available taller/bigger female body on the market this is what I should've expected.

For the record, I think that Toys Works is also Toys Era, TIToys and Black Box. There was a time when they were sharing the same packaging style - a plain brown shipper with a little distinctly coloured label on them.

Black Box made Riddler from Gotham, while Toys Era made Valeska and Penguin from the same series.

I've been thinking that the Toys Works sculpt would make a good vampire, a bride for Dracula!

I'm debating on cancelling my Toy Works Luke pre-order now and just tracking down the Vimal one instead.

The promo pics look so good, but seeing how cheap everything about this figure looks.... :gah:

Yeah, if I had known the parts were available now on ebay to put together a better custom, I wouldn't have bothered to order this. About the only things that really look worth keeping are the bag, camera, and gloves, and even those I could probably find better versions of.

Unfortunately like a moron I already ordered their Morpheus as well, not realizing it was the same company. :lol

Thankfully I didn't order him...

If anyone has Toys Works' Luke Cage on order... TNS posted that they're coming into stock next Wednesday.

:panic:

The strange thing with this set of companies (Toys Works, Toys Era, TIToys and Black Box) is that some of their products are good. I don't know how they decide which figure gets released under which company name. Jessica is by far the worst release I have from them, as the others are comparable to their promotional images.

Jessica is the only one they've gone completely off-road with. However, she was also the only one that looked sketchy from the beginning, with the photoshopped heads.

Maybe, but I'm really dreading now what his final leather coat is going to look like, after seeing the huge drop off in quality of the JJ outfit. The fact they went from the leather boots of the proto to what looks like cheap plastic is the most galling to me.

Toys Works' long pleather coat on their Mad Skull (Punisher) was actually superior to Hot Toys'. Yet the rest of the figure was inferior in every other respect.

These four companies, which I'm sure are linked due to the unique shipping boxes and other factors, are very random. Like a box of chocolates, you don't know what you're going to get.

TIToys Infernal Clockwork Man (Kroenen from Hellboy) was pretty good.

Toys Works' Kingpin is great straight from the box as he's on a tall body with a fat suit, and a sculpt that's more Kingpin than the actor himself.

Toys Era's Laughter (Jerome from Gotham) had a great sculpt and outfit. Their Penguin from Gotham, however, was too tall. I swapped the body and also changed the sculpt to the one sold by OSK, so all that left from the original is his clothes and fully functioning umbrella.

Black Box's Riddler from Gotham is probably the best of them. Good sculpt, glasses, nicely tailored suit with functioning buttons.

But once bitten twice shy. I feel I got lucky with the previous releases and, like you, have little confidence going forward.

You get a company like Ace who go above and beyond to attain historical accuracy down to details you never actually see when the figure is assembled, with masses of quality gear, and all for a little more than Jessica (and $40 less than Morpheus).

And then you get Toys Works' Jessica which looks like it was thrown together.

Just received mine.
I direclty switch with the Vimal HS and....
Not so bad!

Totally différent with a good HS, and the clothes have good quality.
So finally i don't regret my purshase, and she is not expensive

To finish, i think size is good

The similarities in the boxes could just be from suppliers and or same factory. There's only so many, Toys Works doesn't release much so I'm sure they don't have a dedicated facility or something.

Many of these company names belong to single companies. They seem to put their production through different names to spread the risk and make it look like they're not so big.

One of the more open ones is VTS, who generally use the DAM Toys name for figures that don't need licensing. And oddly enough use their original VTS company name for their dodgy unlicensed figures.

New names keep popping up all the time.

ACI is also Pangaea and Wild Toys, and they sell under the 7Toys7 banner.

Asmus is also Xensation.

I'm fairly sure that Pop Toys and CooModels are linked.

Special Figures is also likely Art Figures.

SW Ourworld is also Super Duck and Five Star.

There's many other names that could be attached to any of the above, but these were the ones I feel are confirmed by various factors.

Alright, so I just got mine in hand and I actually don't think it's the worst thing ever. The only thing that's disappointing is the headsculpt. Not that the one in the promo pics were great but what the hell happened to her cheeks and jawline. She just looks puffy in those areas and yeah, just wish that were better. I'll take it. If Soosoo Toys comes out with one, I'll probably get one of those.

Anxious to see in hand pics of the figure, it looks so good in the promo pics.... My expectations are almost at rock bottom at this point, though.

This is the only photo I have of my Vimal/Ganghood/Eleven for comparison:

Well so much for that idea. I received that leather jacket I saw on ebay and as you can see the zipper is just laughably huge and not even close to what was shown in the pics. :lol

The size and execution otherwise is pretty good though, so guess I'll try to switch out with a smaller zipper and see if that helps. And even without any mods or weathering yet I'm still liking my custom a lot better than the Toys Works one. And mine at least comes up to 11.5 inches which is about where she should be.

She does look a lot better and the larger scale jacket is an improvement over Ganghood's, but the zip really is quite a throwback to a nearly forgotten age of sixth scale. It did look a lot nicer in the advert.

Seems like 1/6 Jessica has as much bad luck as 1/1 Jessica!

It's been sold out for a while, but they do still have the jacket for sale. Although that one is still undersized so I did a search and found this one on ebay which I might try.

It's missing the smaller pocket in front but still looks much better than the other two, and is likely a better size too. It's only 40 bucks so worth a shot anyway.

Also, I was just trying to zip the Ganghood jacket back up (which seems impossible), and it's starting to split where I was holding it.

The quality is a bit crappy, as well as being a bit small.

I have a TS Toys Rowdy with a better looking jacket, but the style is reversed - the zip pocket and the flap pocket are on opposite sides to Jessica's. It also has a belt. Might try it anyway.

EDIT:

I went ahead and put the TS jacket onto Ganghood Jessica, and Ganghood's jacket onto Toys Works' little Jessica.

Got these nasty photos with the tablet while waiting for the camera to charge.

While it's less screen accurate I do prefer the larger scale. I might cut the belt off, but that feels a bit drastic at the moment.

I’ve had mine for a few days, it’s still in the box..... it is a bit better in hand than online pictures have been and some parts are definitely usable, it’s certainly going to be a bit of work to get something passable. Body swap and a different head sculpt at a minimum, the pants need to be bleached and distressed but could still work, the boots could use a bit of paint work but are shaped and look ok. Gonna be a long road before this gets displayed.

There’s a lot of great figures in the background of your pics Asta!
