The thing for me is I could say " they just look like statues , not like real people ". Here's two examples of figures I can think of that look incredibly realistic despite whatever body they may be on or end up on.
Bobby C's Joker.
ShortRound's Indy.
It may be because I don't see many statues around of humans , especially in this hobby that impress me anymore.
I honestly think I've seen more figures with a higher sense of realism than I have statues ( unless we're talking life size museum quality pieces ). This may be because as you say there isn't enough companies giving high enough attention and detail to their work with statues. At least not comparable to hot toys or rainman quality for example.
I think this is one of the reasons the popular figure companies are starting to produce 1/4 scale figures , since there is a gap in the market for popular character to this quality standard.
I don't know I like the materials statues are made out of I like how they are 1/4 scale. Your Stansfield sculpt is made of resin, not some cheap PVC or plastic head that hot toys makes. Resin makes the sculpt look more real, hot toys just look like pretty plastic toys to me with good paint jobs nonetheless.
Have you seen the statues of the company cinemaquette? All those statues look real but I hate the likeness on most of them. I wanted their Reeve superman but hot toys Reeve superman has a better likeness so I had to get that, even though it is a doll.
This whole thing is blown out of proportion, the real message is not whether 1/6 figures are better than PFs or statues but that I wish hot toys would make PFs and not just dolls.
