Would love to see Toney get the KO. Toney's a funny guy saying "Hows Couture a Legend of the sport with a 18-10 record". But should be an easy fight for Couture. Toney does have a punched chance, and his chin is solid. Sprawl baby

World Class Wrestler VS World Class Boxer... I seeing the fight going to the ground either by KO or takedown.

I think James Toney is the first American fighter to need subtitles for his promos in the UFC. :lol
:rotfl:rotfl:slap
I'm going to laugh my ____ing ass off if Toney wins.

Me too, but then I'd realize it was just sad on Couture's part. Should've spent more time training instead of on the movie set. I really want Couture to knock him out instead of a submission. And then teabag the hell out of Toney.

I'd laugh too, then I'd be disappointed.

Me too but Couture has to watch out for Toney's punches. He hits hard and Couture might be KO'd to the old folks home.

Yeah I think Randy has alot to lose in this fight because if he does get dropped its going to look bad for the whole MMA vs Boxing debate and not to mention everyones going to trash Randy for losing to a boxer with no previous mma skills. It makes me
wonder if Dana is pulling him aside telling him hes gotta win or else type stuff.

The old Couture would be able to take a few of Toney's shots and be fine, especially since Toney's KO power is VASTLY overrated.

But now?

I'm not so sure.

Toney's always had the worst nickname in the history of boxing since it really doesn't fit(as I've stated before), he's not a KO puncher, and he doesn't have feared knockout power...but with the smaller gloves and Couture's deteriorating chin, anything is possible.

It's typical though. Same thing happened with the BALCO scandal. Whole bunch of people named and nothing really happened to any of them in their respective sports because it's he-said-she-said BS. Not to mention Shane Carwin has been tested before and passed.

Funny how much people snitch when they get busted. :lol

Its the "If I go down, I'm taking you with me" thing.

well if he hasnt been suspended yet, then this story doesnt mean much

Guess not.

Seriously, how can you not like this guy? Sonnen/Silva rematch, or Sonnen/Belfort....I'd love to see either.

Jens Pulver lost his sixth in a row. Some 4-1 dude guillotined him in 68 seconds.

Some people just can't quit. And all 6 losses are by stoppage right? Or most of them (I think Faber only finished him 1/2).

STRIKEFORCE - CHALLENGERS 10

Watched this yesterday. It was meh. Really enjoyed all the female fights but the structure of the tourney sucked and the announcers + Refs were ATROCIOUS!!!! More on that.. first results.

Miesha Tate defeated Maiju Kujala - Decision (Unanimous)
Semi-Final Match-up. Nothing spectacular. Some really sloppy stand up + some grappling + bad reffing = Meh. Tate looked gassed after the fight too.

Hitomi Akano defeated Carina Damm - Submission (Triangle Armbar)
Semi-Final Match-up. The stand up was sloppy by both (Akano's stand up is weird just in general though). Nice ground work though and an impressive win by sub for Akano (Damm is a BJJ Black Belt). Damm is also the first and only female fighter to test positive for steroids. oops.

Ryan Couture defeated Lucas Stark - Submission (Triangle Choke)
Fast fight. A little over a minute. Ryan Couture's stand up looked kinda awkward but his ground game (BJJ+Wrestling) looked good. He got taken down by Stark with a Firemen's carry and immediately slapped on the triangle. Good transition. Dude sounds EXACTLY like his father. lol.

Liz Carmouche defeated Colleen Schneider - Decision (Unanimous)
I didn't watch much of this fight. It was for an alternate spot in case either Akano or Tate weren't cleared to fight. And the stupid thing was, right after Mauro interviewed Carmouche in the cage he announced that both Akano AND Tate were good to go i.e. Sorry Carmouche you just fought for nothing.

Miesha Tate defeated Hitomi Akano - Decision (Unanimous)
Tate won the 135 lbs Women's Tournament. Got a nice belt for a trophy as well (PRIDE Style). Really good fight. A LOT of grappling and sub attempts by both. FOTN and this should've been the Main Event in my opinion.

Joe Riggs defeated Louis Taylor - Submission (Punches) Rd. 3
Pretty boring fight. Neither guy wanted to really mix it up. Ever wondered what two counter punchers fighting each other looks like? Watch this fight. And even the announcers were kinda confused because Taylor isn't a counter puncher. But that's what he did in that fight. Lame Main Event.

PROBLEMS
First and foremost: Strikeforce is absolutely horrible at promoting their own product/organization/fighters. Especially their champions. Jake Shield left because of that. Sarah Kaufman has spoke out publicly about that (She's their 135 lbs Title holder yet she's relegated to CHALLENGER shows!?) and even Overeem (Their HW Champ) seems disinterested in Strikeforce. He wants to fight Fedor. Even with the recent loss but now Coker is saying Overeem will most likely be fighting Antonio Silva. And Coker isn't even sure if Fedor will be fighting again this year for Strikeforce.

So they have a 135 lbs female tourney. Great. Except they treated it like it was an afterthought. Not only was the final match NOT the main event, but dumb ass Mauro belittled Tate's win by stating (while she's near tears from the win and having the tourney title belt put around her waist) "That's great but the real belt you want is the 135 lbs belt held by Sarah Kaufman!" Way to crap all over Tate's accomplishment.

Imagine Shogun just winning the 2005 PRIDE MW GP (after beating Rampage, lil Nog, Overeem and Arona) and when the trophy belt is being put around his waist one of the interviewers pipes up Kanye West style "That's great but the real belt you want is the MW belt held by Wanderlei Silva!"

Not only that, they kept saying the tourney was to determine a #1 contender for the division yet Kaufman's next fight isn't against the winner. It's vs. Marloes Coenen (who's dropping down from 145 lbs). And here's the FUBAR part: After Kaufman defeated Modafferi in her last fight Strikeforce announced back then that Coenen was the #1 contender in the 135 lbs division. Huh!? What about the tourney I just watched!?

Not to mention the tourney final wasn't even the main event. And this is pretty standard for Strikeforce. They really don't treat their champions like champions. It's pretty much standard in ALL other MMA orgs that your champions fight in the Main Event. Yet in Strikeforce.. nope.

Then there's the last minute fight match-ups/dates. When Kaufman was interviewed she mentioned her next fight is against Coenan and how it would be nice to know WHEN that fight would be happening. Even the lady interviewing Kaufman was like "Yeah I think we would ALL like to know that as well!". Company Burn! lol. Strikeforce promotes A LOT of cards with TBD match ups.

Then, during the Akano/Tate final (in between rounds) there's a shot of Kaufman AND Cris Cyborg (Strikeforce 135 lbs and 145 lbs champions) and Pat Miletich pays his respects like "Two of the best female fighters in the world right there" and once again Mauro pipes up with some stupidity and states "I think Megumi Fujii might have something to say about that!". Yeah.. Megumi Fujii.. who fights for.. BELLATOR.

Refs were pretty terrible as well. In the Tate vs. Damm fight the ref actually stood them up WHILE Tate was going for a choke! Joe Riggs had to tell his ref that Taylor was tapping because apparently the ref was watching something else!? And just in general the refs did a lot of warning about staying busy even when grapplers were attempting to.. you know.. grapple.

Hopefully next week the Houston card will be better.

has Dana ever said anything about having a division for woman in the UFC? I dont know what the demand is out there for it, but i would be down for one fight per card if theres some good talent out there. I havent seen enough of their fights to really have a opinion on it.

He's somewhat optimistic about women MMA's future. Here's a Dana quote on the subject.

“Here’s my thing with girls fighting. Right now the place that it’s in is much like female boxing at one time. You probably have three or four girls that are really good and a lot of girls that aren’t, so it makes for some real bad mismatches,” said White. “But I think as the sport continues to grow around the world and more and more kids start getting involved in mixed martial arts I think that’s going to change.”

Can't really disagree with that...

I would like this myself. I like watching the Strikeforce girls throwdown. Most of their fights are more entertaining than the men's fights. I'm sure he'd go for it if Dana felt there was a large enough interest for it.

Yeah. Right now there's really only 4 top fighters in women's MMA:

Megumi Fujii (Flyweight)
Tara LaRosa (Super Flyweight)
Sarah Kaufman (Bantamweight)
Cris Cyborg (Featherweight)

And it's no coincidence that ALL 4 of those women are undefeated in their respective divisions. The only one with any losses on that entire list is LaRosa (2 L's) and both of those were in the Bantamweight division.
