USPS Suspends Inbound Packages from China and Hong Kong, Effective Immediately

There's going to be a lot of people here -- and I mean a lot -- who are quickly going to be rethinking their collections... and specifically, their outstanding POs.

I'm curious what to expect with my HT Maul thru Sideshow that should be arriving by end of month. SS likes any excuse to jack up a price. I can see them use this in their favor. Another 10% charge that they will make 15%.

I have 11 figures on pre-order. 10 with Kit. 1 with SIdeshow. I'm going to wait and see what kind of solution Kit comes up with before I panic. As he said, there's always a way out. I've already been working on paying figures off ahead of time for this exact reason. Granted, I didn't think something drastic like this would happen until much later this year or 2026.

I can say with certainty that I probably won't be pre-ordering anything for quite some time, regardless of what solution Kit is able to figure out as a workaround. And I'm sure he'll be able to beat the US Government at their own game for a while. These changes are sweeping and happening so fast that I feel they won't be able to effectively enforce any of it for a while. Or, once there's a massive backlog at the ports and ships/planes have nowhere to go, maybe they rethink things and hit pause until they can figure out some structure to this.

I feel for small business owners who source materials from China the most.

According to the NYT, every package arriving from China to the U.S. will now be subjected to the higher rates (UPS and FedEx are not exempt).

In addition, it seems like the de minimis rule helped to streamline packages faster through customs, but now CBP may be forced to inspect every package. Longer delays and backups in the supply chain are to be expected now.

I feel your pain though. Wasn't fun for us either when Canada Post went on strike for nearly two months. I'd be surprised if the USPS suspension lasted that long though.

4 million packages imported a day that used to just be tossed into the postal system now have to be assessed by customs. I anticipate this USPS package suspension lasting for quite a while as they figure out how they'll handle the volume. The international private couriers (UPS, Fedex, DHL, etc) will not be exempt from the import tax but I would hope they're better equipped to transition to this as they already handle this sort of thing in other countries.

DHL announced its imposing duties on anything manufactured in China. I'm guessing the others will follow.

Yeah, there's likely not going to be a way to get things into the US without a bunch of extra expense anymore.
