There are numerous problems with Sideshow's sculpt. I have only seen each prequel movie once at the theater. Never rented or purchased them on DVD. We are lucky for the OT because Lucas did not yet have the money to hire 'yes men' and instead had to resort to the collaboration of many talented people who integrated their own ideas that were responsible for making his vision a success. But I digress. I have not had many opportunities to look at a clone helmet, but I could see the problems right off the bat without a reference. So it certainly does not require in depth visual analysis or OCD to recognize the ill proportions. If Sideshow could replicate the GG sculpt, I would be very happy.

The main thing is that it's most inaccurate from the straight-on view, because on the front everything from the lower-part of the visor on down is way off.

I take your all words for it because its just not enough to really bug me.

If it was a slight error in the armour I wouldn't notice, but the helmet is like a human face put the wrong chin on and it makes it look like someone else.

The stormtrooper and Vader helmets look spot on. In fact, I read on this board that Sideshow used computer scans of the helmets to reproduction, so there was no actual sculpting involved. That is why they are so accurate. I don't understand why Sideshow didn't go this route with the clone helmet--especially considering that the ROTS clones were 100% digital creations with no actual physical helmets being made for filming of the movie.

I don't know why there's assumption the Stormtrooper and Vader were done in different processes than the Clone Trooper.

Yes, Sideshow's people used computer programs to make the those helmets, but I'm sure they used the same process for the Clone helmet. As the SSC rep said long ago, they just missed it and obviously know one at LFL caught it and made it get changed. It's like a human portrait, sometimes you miss.

Well I assumed if it is being done on the computer, LucasFilm could send a 3D image file to Sideshow for reference. These are professional artists getting paid to design this stuff. It is their job. I don't see how they can simply 'miss'. Same for LucasFilm approving this stuff.

Well, I don't think ILM stores a lot of their 3D models. I remember some instance where I assumed an old 3D model would be used in a sequel of some movie and in the BTS stuff they talked about making new ones. ROTS being 4 years old almost, it's like they may not have that data stored anywhere with as many things as they do, storage space for old stuff would probably be huge.

Anyway, as for slipping up making the sculpt, just because it's off doesn't make people not professional artists, they're human, errors get made. They're looking at material and making a design to the best of their ability.

It's amazing, a couple of years ago we where happy with any old piece of crap, now everything is an issue (which this is :p ) but people can only do so much

Well, I think in this instance, it's an issue because so many other companies have achieved it, and Sideshow itself has done well with other helmets. As Irish has pointed out, Koto, Hasbro, Medicom and Gentle Giant have gotten the details on this helmet, so it does raise some confusion how SSC seems the only one to miss it, especially with the quality of the Stormie and Vader. I'm with Irish though that it's fine to let Utapau slide and just fix it for the future.

I think they do actually considering they gave the phase I clone files to e/FX for their helmet and that is technically older than phase II. Plus I read in cinefex or maybe it was the insider they used the A.I. aliens as the basis model for the Kaminoians (sp?). Also the Ronto was created from the Bracchiasaurus model too. So I think they do reuse files to some degree.

I would think they keep back-ups of everything, as they pay people a tremendous amount of money to create them in the first place.

Utapua will likely have the inaccurate sculpt, but I firmly believe that it will be corrected for the future clones just out of professional pride. I don't think it's really a big deal to have one that doesn't match, since we'll eventually have the other guys that have helmet variations anyway.

Hey if Brant didn't come on here and drop a big FU after all the insults directed at his likeness, then I would definitely say no one at SSC will.

OMG he doesn't even look remotely like a clone trooper like that. Horrible sculpt.

He kinda looks like this guy:
