I'll wait a bit to share my feelings on this 'holiday'. What do you think about it?

I don't care about it even if I am dating someone. It's nothing but a "holiday" created by greeting card companies to make money.

hate it.

my mom died the day before and dad died the day after 1yr apart from each other .... :monkey2

.. always a depressing time for me...

V-day. The only V-day I ever enjoyed was when I was 17 and me and a buddy of mine were watching cable flipping the chanel between HBO's Real Sex and watching Mother Angelica on the Catholic channel. Weirdest most surreal and hilarious day ever.

Other than that, its just another day for me. My wife and I usually celebrate it the Tuesday after when you can actually get into places and have some elbo room (plus I hate being in a crowded room).

:inlove

My favorite holdiays are Bastille day, Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Groundhog Day, Presidents Day, Thanksgiving and Labor Day. On none of those days are you told by society that you must go out and purchase items for others.

I once heard some cynic describe Christmas as the time of the year when people buy presents with money they do not have for people they do not like and giving them what they do not want.

Bah humbug on Valentines Day

I think it's nice to have a holiday dedicated to the purpose of celebrating love.

However, I think that concept is lost on most of the world, especially retail, so what it is today I'm not a fan of.

So, I like it in theory, but I dislike aspects of it such as:

1) Some people only give their significant other the kind of attention and affection they should all year round on this one day, which is saddening.

2) Retail hypes it up so that many people can't get away with doing anything for the significant other without it having a hefty price tag.

I was going to wait to post my opinions but you pretty much nailed exactly everything I was gonna say. :duff

Flowers, a card, a day at the spa, dinner....what is so hefty about that price tag? some of us spend 3 times as much on toys.

Could care less really. Its fun to show off when you're dating, somewhat stale when you are married and usually reviled by single folk.

Another Hallmark Holiday that will come and go IMHO, the real classy thing is to do something small for V-Day just to not look like a bum but then go all out two weeks after "Just because".... coupled with "I wanted to show you how I felt beyond the Hallmark Holiday because you mean that much to me. I didn't want my feelings to be lost in all of the candy and garbage attributed to that day." If handled right post V-Day showings of love can not only save you money but make you look like a real winner. :lol

Personally, I don't care what the price tag is on the stuff, it's just the mindset drilled into the public that you have to buy things to show your feelings to your significant other, rather than just tell them and show them what they mean to you without items from a store. I have no issue spending crazy money on someone I care about, but I think it's a perversion of the holiday to instill the mindset that if you don't buy things on that day, you're not loving and you don't care about your partner.

Bah... it's a day to show your love for people. I don't consider it a Holiday and I don't treat it as such.

Why only spread your love on one day! :D
