I guess I am just a hopeless romantic... I love Valentine's Day, at least when I am with someone. I am not one to dump a fortune into the gifts, but I get as much as I can and put more effort into showing her that I love her and not PROVING it with gifts. Especially when our Anniversary is only 2 months from V-Day. That day is more for the larger gifts or trips.

I do hate how society makes you feel like you HAVE to go out and buy her diamonds if you expect her to love you for another year. That's just ridiculous to me. A gift should be a gift because you care, not because you have been pressured into doing so...or worse... out of fear. :lol

yep pretty sure Wayne Bobbit musta missed a few valentines days

That's not all he was missing. Ouch!

OH SNAP!

I saw FU to VDay. I don't know, I suppose getting a card and stuff is a good way to get some when you're dating something. That's never a bad thing, just don't want to waste money on useless cards/flowers/candy/etc.

As a woman, all I want for V-day is chocolate.

Hand fed to me, while my toes are being sucked.

Actually, Hubby's very good. I get a red rose for ever year we've been together- not just married. (Although I think he's lost count! LOL But I don't mind. :) )

He must have long arms to be able to feed you choco's while sucking your toes. :horror :lol

Personally, I don't care what the price tag is on the stuff, it's just the mindset drilled into the public that you have to buy things to show your feelings to your significant other, rather than just tell them and show them what they mean to you without items from a store. I have no issue spending crazy money on someone I care about, but I think it's a perversion of the holiday to instill the mindset that if you don't buy things on that day, you're not loving and you don't care about your partner.

I think youre looking at it in black and white only. Just because people celebrate it doesnt mean that it is the ONLY time in the year where they show affection or that they care about their significant other.

There is a guy's version of this, its similar with only a few words changed....

Ah GrueSam, How I look forward to your posts to make me smile when a topic like this pops up... :rock

For me, V-Day is good excuse to watch sappy movies and eat lots of chocolate. :) I love chocolate. Besides that, I always seem to be single on this particular day of the year.....also on my birthday....and Christmas.....damn relationships....guys seem to always cut out before they have to buy me something. :lol :lol Oh well, I'll be very happy enjoying my chocolate. :)

No, I know not everyone is like that, but I saw a LOT of it when I was in college, and granted most guys at college age are immature and may getter better with age about things, I just don't think it should ever get to the point where people only break out the sort of affection you should show often to your partner, just on a day like V-Day. I've also seen some that don't even do it because they care, they just don't want to get their balls broken, which is even sadder.

it was a good holiday when you were in grade school. but once you get old enough to realize celebration of love is a farce, you have to hate valentine's day. don't get me wrong, you can definitely love somebody. but who needs a holiday to tell someone the way you feel. LAME! a made up greeting card company holiday.
