HI!

Since I started to collect Sideshow pieces , I've notice that some prices stay the same, some go up, some go down and there isn't a formula that makes a piece be more or less valuable.

Throughout the years, some pieces shot up 3, 4 times in value like Dr Doom PF, Iron Man Comiquette and HUlk PF. My question is which one of these recent releases do you think will go up in value in the near future?

I have a suspicion that Patient Zero is one of them with the Exclusive selling around $700. I think the regular will also go up in price soon. Another one that I think might go up is Berserker Exclusive. I don't think it will sell for $1500 but I think might follow the same path as Lurtz did, going on the secondary market for $650 bucks.

Some underrated pieces out there are Species and Conan. I think these two will eventually go up quite considerably.

What do you guys think?

he is right. but patient zero was just a plain exclusive. i mean the 12 inch piece. there was never a regualr editon to this comic con piece that i am aware of.
but it is all in how much you want something and the scarcity of it..

Thor PF Ex is bound to explode when the movie comes out.

Good call... some pieces get their proper value after some kind of event like a movie, new comic book etc.

The most subjective topic...... But to comment, some pieces just keep their Grail status throughout time. The Dr. Doom PF is THE perfect example. I've always searched to see how much it was selling for and it has always been around $900-$1500 for the reg and exclusive. Great for ant owners of it, sucks for people who want it (like me :lol)

I'm hoping the PZ ex skyrockets one day, so that I could maybe put my investment to good use :naughty

But I think any Marvel avengers pieces will increase, if all the movies are goodand hold up....

I think it's a bit tough to predict stuff like this.

The Toys McCoy Indiana Jones was a "grail" figure for many sixth scale collectors 6-7 years ago. Now with the SST and Medicom releases, I think not as much.

All I think you can do is follow some basic trends you see and hope for the best.

For 1/6th figures, female figures and figures clad in black tend to do fairly well. If I had to make a prediction, I'd say Machiko and Snake Eyes are going to spike over time. I think HT RE Sheva will be the same story accordingly. As mentioned before, movie or tv show or book/comic releases soon tend to help too.

Something to consider is cross over appeal outside of the hobby. Lots of people are into Terminator now who have no desire to collect 1/6th or PFs or replicas normally. The more one shotters/crossover appeal you have, the more I think you will see more demand for an item.

If you have investment considerations, my only suggestion is to buy what you like and what you would not mind keeping for good. You just might have to. Buying for pure speculation is a really tough situation and usually for every 1 piece you have as a grail, you need to eat the depreciation on 20 other items you took a shot on. Walk into any comic/collectibles shop and you'll see the same sad story ( Shelves are clogged with things that never took off or are generally worthless now)

Look at the HT V1 Joker. People were scrambling like mad to get one on release and considering the preorder sellout and the fact that Ledger was dead ( murdered or offed himself or some tragic combination of events ) Now that figure is actually not worth even as much as it's MSRP on the secondary market now. If HT didn't make two more releases, that figure would probably be worth 400 now.

All this stuff is really really volatile. I know of ZERO dealers in our hobby who are sitting on yachts railing 8 supermodels at a time and lighting their Cuban cigars with 100 dollar bills. If they can't figure out how to predict secondary market value on some item, and they deal with it every single day, then I have serious doubts the rank and file collector could either.

Good luck

Brilliant post, GG. Loved it, and wholeheartedly agree.

Sideshow BQ Comiquette will remain healthy value wise.

Just in my opinion and I have nothing to base it on except that she looks great.

Will be worth more than Emma Frost I reckon.

So, we're not talking Doom money but a healthy return, if that is why you bought her.

At one point, I was really interested in the iron man mark 3 bust, if it weren't for the factory defects and the whole price depreciation thing.

Yep, another great example is HT Michael Jackson figure... the first one sold well, but wasn't selling for crazy money. Then MJ dies, and it sky-rockets... hard to predict something like that.

Now the Thriller version is coming and a lot are seeing $$$... but my guess is HT will ramp up production and flood the market.

:lecture No kidding. After seeing the current prices for the V1 Joker in the BST forum, I am STILL kicking myself for paying full retail last winter for mine.

On the plus side, I did get my TDK Bats for a good price once the official pics of the DX came out :joy

Yeah, the way prices tanked on both Jokers is pretty painful.

But on the plus side; the rel-release of the Batman Begins figure has done well. That is until they release a DX version of that one too :lol

Yup, I'm debating about selling mine since I have the TDK one also. Still haven't quite made up my mind, but I know the option is there.

Yeah, I think its hard to say a DX line is good or bad. It's definitely got its benefits if you want "the best" version of a figure... and honestly seems a lot of people are willing to take the financial hit selling the first two releases to pick up the DX.

My only hope is that HT is able to guage what figure should be a DX and release that as the first version... rather than use sales of a V1 to determine if a DX is needed. Maybe they couldn't do that with the Joker or Batman (as DX didn't exist yet) but I hope that is not always the case as it will make me more reluctant to pay retail when a figure is first released.
