Well...although it may be a point in some cases...it is a pathetic generality to say that someone with an ugly wife has no confidence. If you think about it...exactly the opposite may very well be more likely.

And Jimmy Soul states it best!

Her face is ugly, her eyes don't match...take it from me...she's a better catch!

Yeah, one could argue that someone who chooses a spouse based on looks alone is more than a bit simplistic and superficial, and is not making the most rational decision. What matter looks if your spouse is a dullard, or doesn't have the capacity to bring in other benefits to your household and life? Also, looks fade, and from a rational evolutionary perspective, how is choosing a good looking spouse alone going to move the species forward? In which case, if you're gonna make the connection between choosing a wife and being a good coach, a coach selected this way could be worse than one who chose a spouse weighing a larger constellation of factors in his decision-making process.

Guy is assuming that anyone would want the most attractive spouse possible at the expense of everything else, and anyone who doesn't have an attractive spouse is only in their situation because they didn't have a better option, which could make one question his ability to see all of the complexities of football in general.

Anyway, I don't exactly expect football coaches to be great thinkers :lol This is just a funny story overall.
