I don't know, I'm kinda partial to Lloyd Webber's stuff and the shows that came after. West Side Story is too "old Broadway" for me.

Sorry but Singing in the Rain, Wizard of Oz, and Marry Poppins are the greatest musicals.

For anyone who hates musicals - download the SCRUBS MUSICAL episode!

It was freaking AWESOME!

Your eyes, your smile, made my little life worthwhile. The sky was a lot more blue when I was on top of you :lol

Another favorite line from a great song in Cannibal:

Let's build a snowman! We can make him our best friend. We can name him Tom or we can name him George! We can make him tall, or we can make him not so tall. Snowman! He'll have a happy face, a happy smile, a happy point of view. If you build me a snowman, then I'll build one for you. So, let's build a snowman! We can make him our best friend. We can name him Bob or we can name him Beowulf! We can make him tall, or we can make him not so tall. Snowman! Hey! He'll have a happy face, a happy smile, a happy point of view. If you build me a snowman, then I'll build one for you. Snowman! Snowman! Snowman!

Man, you guys are "old school"!!! I left those kind of musicals behind the first time I heard Jesus Christ Superstar!!! :rotfl

Anyone with an interest in hearing a TRUE rock musical needs to check out Hedwig and the Angry Inch. Think Marilyn Manson meets Iggy Pop mixed with David Bowie. Sweet.

For the more traditional, I highly reccomend anthing by Stephn Schwartz, i.e. Pippin, Godspell, Children of Eden.

Also Stephen Sondheim's early works are amazing for the more mature ear. Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, Sunday In the Park With George, Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum....

Stay far, far away from LaChiusa.

I'm a musical fanatic..:lol

I have not seen it you but one Musical I want to see.

Spamalot. How can you beat Monty Python?

Its in Vegas now so I will be seeing soon.

Spamalot and the The Producers are great.

Of course the best musical ever is Once More with Feeling. But Joss was sort of parroting Sondheim there.

Seriously, Sweeney Todd is probably my favorite of all time. And I love the early Weber too. Evita is classic.

Now you're talking! I was lucky enough to be living in Queens during the late 80's, and got to see Cats, Starlight Express, Phantom, Miss Siagon, Les Mis, etc on Broadway, many of them the original casts! It was one of the best times of my life!
