What are you listening to?

Ok, I tried and it´s just exactly this exact punk rock style I just really CAN´T listen to.
I stopped at 1:40 cause the singer´s really bad, the melody sounds just like every other punk rock song I was forced to listen to and I really don´t here anything special like you.
The music is just plain aweful to me, sorry Mag.

Need to clean my ears:

Well I just listened to the above song and loved it. You know what that means? LUCKY ME, I CAN ENJOY BOTH SONGS!


Although I prefer Metal I still love a lot of Punk rock. I can be moved by music in many different genres. And for me, Sorrow by Bad Religion is a more moving song than that Miseration song. The Miseration song is just aggressive and not much more than that. It's interesting that when someone doesn't like a kind of music they can see that it 'all sounds the same', but when they like a genre that thought never occurs to them. The fact is that is what a genre is! By definition the bands in that genre will tend to sound similar. Yes Punk bands will sound similar to other punk bends but that is even more so the case when comparing Metalcore bands. That's why I have limited patience for Metalcore. The songs are sooooo formulaic: 1) Verse with growled vocals, 2) Chorus with catch clean vocals, 3) breakdown with slow and heavy guitars. I've heard it a million times!


So anyways, I like to listen to different genre's of music to keep life interesting. And not only different genres of Metal.




A couple quick thoughts about Bad Religion:

1) They have been around for decades. They are in their late 40's or early 50's.

2) The are pioneers in the genre.

3) The singer is fantastic.





Finally, here's a metal song that I am very moved by:

I listen to lots and lots of different genres, here´s only metal:

Industrial, Progressive, Alternative, Melodic Death, Nu, Neo Thrash, only to name a few.

Then there comes Classic Rock, Industrial Rock, Alternative, Hard and a little more I can´t even categorise.

Then a little Hip Hop corner. Recently I´m listening to Sadistik:

My friends and stuff all think that I have one of the most all-round tastes they´ve ever seen. And those are only some orchestral examples.
Ever listened to Ascension of the Watchers? Those are nearly the only rock songs that are nice and soothing that I listen to and they´re really industrial. I just don´t like many ballads.^^

Miseration just came my way, cause "not liking" Bad Religion doesn´t cut it the slightest.


And that was just the groundmaterial of my taste, there´s so much more, bud.

As long as the Hip Hop corner is indeed small then I agree with all of that with the possible exception of Classic Rock. The closest I come to that is Pink Floyd maybe some Queen or Moody Blues.


But I would add quite a few to your list including but not limited to: Punk Rock, Jazz, Blues, Classical, Ambient, Dark Wave, Electronic, and various kinds of experimental rock.

i tried to see these guys at the lovebox festival in london over the summer, but so many people crowded into the tent it was like a riot. they had to shut it down. shame, as it was the only DJ set i really wanted to see.

There are small fragments of few of those I do listen to, like Jazz, or Blues. But they´re too small to categorize and I couldn´t even tell what artist cause I don´t listen to any on a concious level.
It´s just like:"Ouh. that´s nice...I really like that once in awhile!"

But Hip Hop has far more soothing corners to it, really nice places and parts where it can take you. Like that guy Sadistik I posted, or LP´s own Mike Shinoda and his Fort Minor Project. From there I got to know Stylez of Beyond and Demigodz. Awesome DJ´s with great MC´s, really good good music to chill to and getting good vibes from, or oldschool like Mobb Deep, before they joined that 50Cent craplabel, Stuff from Eminem, Canibus, Busta Rhymes, LLCoolJ and germany´s own Curse I my favorite besides Marteria. Both do the trick great of delivering great melodies with excellent rhymes.

Classic is mostly associated with my Score-listening corner, but pure classic is rather boring to me, sorry.

I actually listen to a lot of ambient and I like it pretty much, like Amethystium from norway and a lot of ambient stuff from video games. Like I said, many styles framented, but not organized, or categorized by artist really.

Electronic is rather existent through many pieces of the music that I here. I like Daft Punk once in a while, Yello and again much of it is existent in game and film scores, or the band Orgy...I guess you could call it Industrial, or Eletronic Rock.

I listened to one band once, that´s VAST...they´re really good, speaking about Experimental Rock and I like NIN a once in a while, but generally I´m really open to many styles, but not to the extent of really starting to listen to that particular style. Many things come in handy and nice through other music...like I said like scores and I have many, many favorite songs through all genres and classic rock´s existent in my taste through Van Halen, AC/DC a few, Deep Purple, Queen and many I can´t tell again, cause I simply don´t know.

But things I´ll never listen to cause I simple don´t like it in the sense of:"That was a few sec too long" are are a few of your listed namely Punk Rock and Dark Wave. I share your opinion about the most part of Metalcore and Deathcore over to Punk Rock and Dark Wave, cause it´s always the same and Dark Wave just really hurts my ears...it´s...hm, chaotic´s the wrong word...it´s organized no matter what, but...it´s just not parted, if you know what I mean...there´s always noise...not music...it´s noise to my ears and the unpleasant one.^^
And punk rock...I just can´t listen to it...like Ska...sounds almost the same to me and I tried listening to a few, but it just goes click everytime in the other direction, namely away from it...cause how the guitars and singers everytime sound is just horrible to me.

BUT I can perfectly understand why people say the same thing about my music, it´s a special taste and really differentialm but that´s what personal tastes are for, right?
