I really miss Opeth's old drummer Martin Lopez who also played drums for Amon Amarth on the Avenger album..he left Opeth due to stress issues or something, he really was a big part of Opeth that is now missing.

Hey all,

I'm looking for help from someone with a long history of listening to bands in the death/dark/speed metal genre.

What I'm looking for is someone to kind of go through their collections and come up with a 'Best Of'. Now, of course your best of and mine probably aren't the same, so I'll try to give you an idea of what I'm looking for.

I want songs that have depth, melody, and groove. In other words, no 'Cookie Monster' metal. I've been out of the metal scene for a LONG time, but I can give you an idea of a couple of tunes I've heard in the past few years that epitomize what I like.

In Flames - Cloud Connected
Strapping Young Lad - Love

These 2 songs GROOVE, if you understand what I mean. Now, maybe those 2 songs aren't the bands' normal forte, but I don't necessarily want the whole albums. You might consider those songs 'hits' for lack of a better word. I don't know, and that's why I'm here, looking for the people that do know.

If you like those two songs, (or if you don't, but think you understand what I'm looking for), please help me out by giving me a list of songs you think I'd like. I'll give feedback on the ones listed by you guys, and that may help define what I'm looking for.

Those are some good songs, i actually went through a few weeks where all i played in my car was Killswitch after a nasty break up, they have a pretty good sound i guess for a more mainstream type band..i have never listened to much SYL or Devin Townsend in general but, i liked those songs you posted here, pretty good.

Thanks for the links. You're right, the first two aren't quite what I'm looking for. Now the the Killswitch Engage song...that's not bad. It's not quite as 'hard' as what I'm looking for, but definitely a good listen. Thanks for that. Would you consider that one of KE's best?
