The Bowie recordings from the Lazarus cast soundtrack... Lazarus, No Plan, Killing A Little Time, When I Met You
It's a damned shame that most of the people who listen to this won't have seen the musical. This is one of those rare instances for Bowie where the show came first, and the music was written specifically for that purpose. Without that context the three new songs seem ...thin? Disjointed? Urgh as a non-arts person it's difficult to verbalise, but in this case context is key.
Before I saw the musical the songs were an interesting if incredibly melancholy curio, sounding more like demos than finished tracks in their own right. With the context of the story filled in, well, their apparent roughness fits the show perfectly, and in terms of matching the tone and plot they slot in seamlessly.
