Speaking of concerts, I saw these guys Saturday night opening for Dwight Yoakam, and they were amazing.
The opening bands were a band I didn't know called 49 Winchester and the Mavericks. They were both great and really high energy, showing off a lot of technical skill. So when Dwight first came out, around 10:30 or so, it took an adjustment to get into his style and mode. It's damn hard to follow a band like the Mavericks. But he built into his hits, and interspersed his songs with stories and audience interactions, so by the time it was over he was arguably the best thing about the show. His voice was as great as it ever was, and they even did his recent duet with Post Malone, with the bass player doing the harmony. He had a multi-instrumentalist who played the accordion, fiddle, piano, pedal steel, mandolin, and dobro which was pretty incredible. How was Dwight?
Oh man, The Mavericks are freaking awesome too! Makes sense they would open for DY, both have had hits back in the day that appealed to rock n roll audiences. Must have been one hell of a show congratsThe opening bands were a band I didn't know called 49 Winchester and the Mavericks.
