Hey there,
Just curious to see what peoples spending habits are?

Do you buy something when it comes up for a good price of do you think of something that you would like and than hunt the world for it?

Do you go on sudden spending sprees grabbing everything in sight and then go cold turkey for a while?

Do you save up for special pieces ahead of time or do you sell something old to fund something new?

How many different pieces do you buy per month, week, etc?

Any thoughts on the matter are appreciated:D

^ What Evilface said.

However, there are times when I get tired of collectibles or I have more pressing things more deserving of my funds. In those circumstances I I'll hold out for a while. It's like abstinence for collectibles.

75% of my collecting budget is blown on custom sculpts, paints and kit bash fodder. The rest of it is spent of lisenced releases that I cannot say no to.

Hunt the world for it, price doesnt bug me unless its a huuuge difference, i wont waste my time to save $5 on something i really want.

yes!

i find saving doesnt help if you have an uncontrollable ebay mouse clicking finger like i do, so i just sell off stuff when something better (or what would be a decent upgrade of a character) comes along to fund any new purchases.

maybe 1-3, depends what format and price range they are whether it be PF, 1:6 or just plain ol cheapie action figure

same as me!

I save my hard earned money for items that I really like. There are a few lines that I collect like Star Wars OT, Terminator 1 & 2, Predator 1 & 2, Star Trek, anime (especially Shirow stuff) etc., so every time I see something I like I pre-order it.

Only once I canceled a pre-order (Slave Leia PF and now I'm very glad I did). When there is an expensive item that I really need, I start saving for it and get it no matter what - this happened to a few props and statues I have. There are months when I don't buy anything and there are others where I spend lots of $.

Here lately I've been selling random things (not all collectibles) and using the money towards my collection, only because I'm purchasing a house and I'm saving money from my regular income for things that I'll need to get for it in a month or two.

It's worked out decently as I've been able to pick up things I want - which is mainly Watchmen items because I've decided to start a serious Watchmen spin off collection.

Once my spending for the house is done, I'll have to be more careful with my monthly income to allow for a house payment and bills, but I'll still be able to pick up 1/6th scale figures and random collectibles (only when there's no 1/6th figure coming I want) And often it's two or three months in between figures I want, so it works out that I'm not spending a ton of money at once.

I don't do Star Wars or statues, I only do 1/6th on a regular basis and I'm quite picky, so it isn't a huge deal for me.

Mine can be summed up by ''oh my god, I didn't spend any money on toys last week - must rectify that this week...heck I have time, I'll do it right now''

In addition to my many HT 1/6th preorders I fill the time in between with a combination of physical hunts and online searches for what can pretty much amount to impulse buys.

It is an addiction. I get genuine urges to buy new things probably after no more than 2 weeks since a prior delivery in the post.

I have monthly "mad money" for whatever my itty bitty heart desires. I have two hobbies movies and (certain) 1/6th collectibles. I am not a big monthly spender so the mad money pot accumilates each month until a pre-order comes due or I choose to buy something.

I made impulse buys (Medicom /SS) which I will eventually sell. The money will increase my mad money pot allowing me to purchase more HT products...:D

Nowadays I typically pre-order stuff as it becomes available... but some stuff I'll hold off on if I think it will dip in value. Probably about 75% of what I buy is new stuff, but I also use slower times to search for deals on figures I might have missed out on in the past.

One recent shift I've noticed though is that as the quality of new pieces increases (sometimes dramatically) I'm less interested in getting previous grails as they really pale in comparison.

Pre-order, spur of the moment, when a deal is found, sell to fund, sudden splurges, save up, ect ect ect...........................:(

I have zero self control and its only getting worse.

generally I prefer to avoid spur of the moment PO/purchases (SSC and BBTS's PO system really saved me on that) ponder a bit to see if I really want it. Kinda like sleep on it type of method. But I still spend to much on toys.

I try to plan out something (or two) to get at least every month. this way I can have money in my pocket and not go broke over anything. I only go broke if it's something I'd hate myself for not getting. I try to be smart every other time I buy something :D

Yeah thats me but without the 'sell' and with all too little of the 'save up'. So you aint alone. Recession be damned. Its spend spend spend with me.
