I did a degree on Graphic Design but it was getting to be too expensive and too competitive for jobs so I didn't finish.
I have an General A.A degree but have not done more. I should go back to finish something else, But I am not sure what to do. The degrees I like don't pay well and getting a job is difficult.

It's good investing in a STEM degree if you're good at math and science. But, it's a serious financial investment and completing one is no easy task.

I heard that people with liberal arts degrees (eg. English, art history, philosophy, history etc) have the highest rate of unemployment right now. So, it's probably best to stay away from those.

yeah.. I am kind of screwed right now. I am not good at math or science, I couldn't be a lawyer or something either.

But the stuff I like is the stuff that has no jobs now, so I have no idea what to go for, i am so screwed

Well, I don't think you're screwed :lol. I guess you can take some introductory classes (in whatever) at a community college to get yourself up to speed, and figure out what you really want to do.

It's funny, I took a microeconomics class back in 2007, and the Professor said that as long as you have any kind of degree (even one as arbitrary as pottery), you're guaranteed to get a job. This, of course, was before the financial crisis of 2008 :lol :slap. Things have changed so much since then.

Bachelor's in Sociology. Plan was to go to law school. Temped for a few months at a huge firm in DC and changed my mind after I saw how hard the partners were working the first year associates. Sort of fell into government contracting afterwards.

Law. Doctorate in Jurisprudence. My Bachelors degree is in political science and history. In retrospect, I should've studied something more practical in undergrad.

Bachelor in Environmental Design and Master in Architecture, 6 years of studies, dang, most my friends are working when I was still studying.

damn, architecture, those were the days. I started studying architecture and lost out both in interest and financially. I love arts but don't think I'll survive from it. ultimately, I got AS in Architecture, AS in CIS(computer information system), and BS in CIS.

That's better than me. I took eight years for my Bachelors because I went part-time for financial reasons :lol. Some of my former classmates are even married and own houses now.

Got dual degrees in Engineering and Military History. Worked in the Army as a future weapons designer. Ran a experimental combat team.

That sounds pretty hardcore. I'd ask what weapons you worked on but most likely you can't say lol

Similar to my situation. Finished my diploma in graphic design but didn't go in to the industry as it was too saturated. And let's be honest with ourselves, if you weren't absolutely amazingly talented (I was mediocre - and that's being kind), then you aren't making a solid living.

THANK YOU.....People don't believe me when I tell them this. Everyone is always like "you are talented, don't put yourself down, you are being too hard on yourself"

But yeah, if you are not amazing with the computer you will not get much work. I was okay but I couldn't do what some of these designers could do. If I went to work I would probably end up doing children's books or something like that. I finally see someone else say the obvious

Haha right on buddy! I got the same lecture from my family and friends too ... "Oh but you're so talented! ". NO. I'M. NOT!! I would be the coffee boy at the local design firm.

My classmates were ridiculously talented and even they were having a hard time getting high paying jobs. So I said eff it and moved in to something else --- and I'm glad I did.

Archaeology and Greek & Roman Civilisation (Arts degree)

Archaeology bored me to tears and pissed me off, Greek & Roman was better but I'm just not the studying type so I barely scraped them both at the exams and I took it no further.

:lol :lol :lol

I get the same as you guys because I was moderately decent at drawing. I was OK at what I did yes - using a close-up photo of someone famous and copying it, achieving a lot of realism and a good likeness with pencil only - but that is literally all I ever liked doing. I was useless at everything else, particularly anything that required imagination or the use of anything other than a pencil. Drawing was an occasional 'mood' for me, even calling it a hobby would have been a stretch.

But apparently I should have done something in art and design. They require huge, varied portfolio's just to allow you into an art and design course.

I entered Boston University as an English major, intending to change that to Continental Literature with a concentration in French. I stopped going to class after Thanksgiving and hitchhiked to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. Earned a few miscellaneous credits over the years, half of it when I was in high school (Bates College).

Yeah, I got nothin'. :lol

college degree is overrated. masters? PHD? MEEH
