Yeah make sure the draining hose is clear and not clogged first...At my old mine would get deposits in it. The water would back up to the A coil and leak out by the furnace. The Drain hose from the furnace to where the drain is could be the problem. If that is clear you might want to check to see if it is draining or trace the leak and see if its draining from another spot instead.

PS...I feel ya with the house...We moved in and had to do our floors, walls, vents, and electircal. Then within two weeks we had to do the main sewage line from the house to the curb..Another 7k..Found out they piggy backed our sump pump to our AC breaker and our Sump pump breaker is just a dead breaker. So the AC breaker was off all winter and during the biggest rain fall in the last 50 years. Flooded out our crawl, had to replace our back door, storm door and jam along with our stove going out on us. All this since September. Home ownership is fun..lol

well turns out it is a leak somewhere. the Freon was low and had to be refilled. they told us the leak is to hard to find and it will have to be refilled once per year.

what kind of air condition that requires refill? I haven't fill a single air condition and I have 3 in the house...been using air conditions for yrss. they do leak but its due to condensation as Ecko said.

He probably meant his central air unit. I had to have mine refilled a few years back but my unit is probably 25 years old or so.

Time to find a new contractor.. There is no such thing as a leak being too small. If there is a leak, it can be found and fixed. Any contractor saying that are either lazy or don't know what they're doing.

The two most common problems with condensation leaking is either a faulty drain pan or a backed up line. If I were you, I'd borrow a shop vacuum and hook it up to the drain line from the outside while pouring water into the drain line from the inside. That will usually clear any buildup in the line. You could also take the front panel off from the furnace and visually look at the drain pan. Run your finger across it and check for any build up in the pan itself.

The old refrigerant is called R22 and has been phased out..so it's supplies will continues to run out . When we moved into our house in 2005 the outdoor AC looked ancient.. Turns out it was from 1991. I kept it maintained as best I could.

2 weeks ago warm air started blowing out of the vents.. With the next day supposed to be the warmest of the year.

Long story short, there was a freon leak somewhere.. The compressor was dead, and the fan motor had seized up.

$3500 I didn't plan on spending, but have a new one that is around 14 SEER. (Old one was approx 3 seer)

It will get to the point where it's smarter to get a new system rather than fixing the old one. I say go until it seizes up!
