I read the Gray Hulk/Grail thread and had a question; what makes a statue "grail worthy?" Is it being considered the definitive sculpt of specific character, the edition size, both, or something else?
I own the Doom Ex, Green and Gray Hulks, Cap Ex and Reg, Iron Man Ex, Wolverine Ex, Retro and Negative Zone Spideys. Granted, I believe the Doom and Hulk sculpts are the best on the market today, bar none, but don't consider the Doom to be particularly rare. I realize the Cap piece is still rather new, but have never seen, in my opinion, a representation of him surpassing that offered by Sideshow. I can also say the same for the Iron Man comiquette. Between the size, detail and unique pose, I see it as "the" Iron Man statue to have, with the Stealth being a distant second. Again, though, not particularly rare. I don't think I have ever heard of the Spideys being referred to as "Grail" pieces, which I find especially confusing with the Retro version. I think the sculpt is an excellent one for him, given the felxible pose, detail of his costume, and the interesting characteristic of the black instead of blue. Aside from the tiny run of seventy-five pieces each, why would the average collector not consider these to be "the" Spideys to own? Any constructive opinions would be welcomed.
As a side note, I am not considering the Bowen bronze versions for Cap, Hulk, or Spider-man, with them being well out of reach for most collectors. I am also not a huge fan of dioramas, but do think the X-Men/Sentinel is pretty cool.
Thanks,
Ryan
