After 6 month break I'm back to the stage and
pretty shocked when i checked out current price of statues
Balrog under $1800, witchking under $800?
what was that people predicted its price would only go up & up...

what happened?

Well, pal, these are not Mona Lisa or last Supper you know... but the value of them remains in the hearts of the faithful and not measured by monetary terms.. don't you agree... unless you are a trader, thats another story.

Can you make mine a spicey SauronBurger?

I think the new PF's are going to have a lot of people getting rid of the polystone statues for the new format that many think is far superior. Once The Hobbit comes out, I'm being very hopefull here, it will generate even more interest in LOTR again. I really think the Stone Trolls will rival the Balrog once that movie comes out. But I think we've seen the peak for these pieces.

Darth, you underestimate the love people have with the fact that the old statues have the Weta association to them. So, we shall see.

No not at all. I love the few Weta pieces that I have. But I think many who got the Weta pieces are very interested in the new PF's and once this line gets off the ground will not only have space issues but money issues and we'll see more of these Weta pieces on the market.

I think part of what is dropping the prices is the fact that more folks are getting rid of their pieces not only in favor othe the PF line but also because their interest has wained and attention turned to something else they are making room for..

Of course that's all good for those of us who are still waiting to pick pieces we've missed :D

I definitely agree, check out the posts in the Weta website, many are diehard people...

I wonder how long will it take the PF line to be as complete as the original SSW line, unless LOTR is going to be like another SW, 20 years of release and still going strong. This is the only 1 movie in the entire history of mankind that has its heat lasted for so long.. at least 1.2 generation huh??

As much as I love LOTR, many fans around the world are fans of Tolkien's writings rather than the movie, that is at least why the book is still in print since 1960s.

I actually feel sorry for those who sold off their SSW collection (and I don't mean that to belittle anyone). I was almost one of them, I do prefer the PF and love the 1/4 scale, but at this pace ... eek! :google

I would much rather have the connection to Weta and the pieces I do than wait for 2 PFs (I have little interest in the Legendary busts, or 12" line).

Im not completely closed off to other lines of Lotr but for the most part Im pretty done on it unless something extradordinary comes along ... Lurtz being one of them, but even now Im still tossing up whether to go ahead with it or not.
I don't see myself substituting Polystone for PFs however ... to expand, yes, might do that.

The PF line and the 12 inch line hurt the WETA value. But the new lines are going to lose more value then the WETA Stuff.

I would LOVE to see, but will probably never happen, characters from the simarillian and other characters that have not been made whatsoever. I know the market is for characters in the movies that the wide audience knows, but I would be in love with a beren/luthien, or a tuor, melian, eol the dark elf (i think he could be amazing if done right).

I will always cherish my WETA LOTR polystone. Plus, they fit perfectly in my display cases.

The PF statues are just too big and I'm running out of room since I'm also collecting SW PF and 12" figures. I plan to collect the 12" LOTR (probably just the fellowship) to compliment my WETA LOTR collection. If the WETA prices keep dropping, I'll probably pick up a few more statues along the way.

Available Funds and Display Space are hitting a lot of collectors I think. There are SO many great options for collecting, and allocation of finite resources. Many might agree that the wealth of available products is in some ways a result of the huge success of the Sideshow*Weta LOTR line. These pieces will likely always remain my personal fave's, for many reasons all said before. I've never sold an item from my personal LOTR collection, and don't expect I ever will.

It's a good point also that more modest prices (Still WAY over msrp for must early releases, just not at all-time highs) are great for old diehards who are trying to fill in remaining holes in their own version of an "ideal" collection. Maybe one day I'll even pick up a Wiki.

In any event, this is all cyclical. We've been in the annual down-season for trading, LOTR has dipped (temporarily) off the hot list, and several companies are putting out a lot of competing products/licenses. The "final" word is far from in, just a few years from the figure's release. Almost all of the collection is beautiful, and many pieces approach high art IMO. Couple in a love of the movies/stories and a limited/diminishing circulation, you have collectible gold.

Loki, the fact that Weta designed these polystones, is one of the two criteria that fascinates me about them. I have many, and some I still like to own. As for the SSC PF's, well, I buy what I like. I loved the Lurtz PF, so I ordered it. The Frodo PF I wouldn't even accept if I got it for free. And the story goes on with the other PF's: I bought the SW GG and the Boba Fett, but I don't want any of the other SW PF's so far. The PF's are fine, but it is not a line I intent to follow as such. Even if they are far more complex, with the fabric and all, they don't have the same emotional value the Weta Polystones have for me.

I also feel the same and actually after receiving Frodo PF, I will make a decision to continue PF line or return back and buy the old LOTR weta statues.

So sideshow please improve Frodo PF as much as possible :D
