something is purchased through a third party? I am considering buying a 1:1 Iron Man bust, but the seller hasnt opened it. He says he will insure it for the full amount for shipping, but will only file a claim with them if there is paint damage. Will Sideshow give me a replacement if it has problems? Or do they only do that when things are purchased directly through them?

Not likely. Their policy is to only deal with people who ordered directly from their site. Your seller would have to contact SS about a possible replacement.

I normally wouldnt bother, but I have the chance to get one for about $480... what to do... and it wouldnt even be for me, it would be a birthday present for my bro - he had one preordered and it got cancelled through that seller because of all the problems...

I order a lot of SS stuff from a local dealer. When I have an issue with something when I've bought it from the dealer, I tend to get a replacement faster than I would if through SS directly. No worries there. They support their dealers just as well as they support their direct customers.

Thanks guys, that is helpful info - my only concern is that the seller doesnt seem to want to take it back for a refund or replacement from sideshow - only file a shipping claim with the PO. If the frikkin' guy would just open it and make sure it was ok, that would solve everything - but he wants it SEALED - MIB ...urgh...

That's what a lot of sellers try to pull. You're the buyer here, but as Rory said, be prepared for the worse on this one. I've read WAY too many unhappy owner posts about this one and its QC. The fact that the seller doesn't want to open it, makes me think he (or she) is aware that the chances that it's mint aren't good. Why? Because at this point, I think EVERYONE knows about the paint issues with this 1:1.

I agree with Mike on this one big time, something is up if the seller wouldn't even open it up for u to verify it's mint.

I recently delt with a seller that didn't even wanna show me pics of the statue until I purchased the piece. Now that is insane, how can I be sure to buy something if i don't even know what the condition is... and actually I'm just doing research on the item so I can be able to purchase with confidence later on.

I don't get sellers that think u can just take their word for it sort of deal, LOL, exceptions are the very close friends on this forum that I know wouldn't deal me a rotten apple.

edit: If I was selling, I would provide everything necessary for my customer to be happy and have confidence to buy from me, only then can I be reputable.

Lets just be honest, most of them are lazy *******s who don't wanna take the time to open it up, check it and put it back in.

Well said.

Yeah, that sounds SUPER shady. I would HIGHLY suggest NOT buying this piece if the seller isn't willing to check the condition for you..... I can GUARANTEE that people that INSISTS on selling an item UNOPENED and Sealed in box, then they are just covering THEIR butt on the sale, so that it's a MANUFACTURER defect and not his responsibility after the sale....

That may be the case, but some think "ignorance is bliss" or want to "play it smart" (in their opinion) especially on pieces infamous for flaws, such as this one. They feel if the piece is factory sealed, it must be mint. And if it's not by the time the buyer gets it, it must have been caused in transit. (And then they wipe their hands clean of it.) In many cases, they don't want to open it for fear of what they will find and what it will do to the cost of their item. I'm not saying this includes ALL sellers, but it does happen often with pieces of this nature. Now, I will say some buyers want a factory sealed piece, so I can understand if the seller doesn't want to open the piece while the auction is going (as with the case of an Ebay auction.) So I respect the buyer who doesn't want to open the piece at that time. However, an option should be given that gives the buyer the right to have the seller open the box and check for flaws at the end of the auction. And if the piece isn't mint, the money should be returned, if the buyer so wished. (Again, this is just my opinion.)

Thanks for the input guys. The seller hasnt refused to open and check it, but he hasnt responded to me since I asked if he would (which is the same IMO).

I dont think the seller not wanting to open up a sealed box to check the statue's condition has anything to do with lazyness. It has everything to do with the fact that if it is indeed flawed, now the seller has lost a potential sale and can no longer call his item "sealed", and can probably not get a replacement either. Essentially they would be stuck with a flawed item and have to sell it for less than desired.

If a buyer agrees to buy it "sealed" now they are the ones who have to deal with it should it arrive flawed and the seller has what he wanted in the first place.

well, actually, if he opened it and it was flawed, he could return it to sideshow. No one else would be able to do that but him...

I think Nash is saying if it's over a period of time or if SS doesn't have replacements for the item as well. Then the seller would be either stuck with the item or sell it for less than full value.

Seems like no one really wants that chance of happening on them so it's kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place between seller and buyer, since each them do not want to deal with the "what if" factor once it's opened...

havent you heard, sideshow is not issuing any more replacements for the Iron man bust. It's only partial refund and keep the flawed bust, or full refund and send it back completely.
